Bus Bar Location
86 GMC
Where is the bus bar located? This is the bar that ground wires connect to such as the ground wire coming from dash tank switch. Last edited by Nickelcharlie; 11-03-2018 at 07:38 AM. |

Re: Bus Bar Location
That is the fuse box and I know where that is. I found a wiring schematics someone posted in another forum that shows the fuse box and to the right of it shows a bus bare where ground wires are attached just like in a house fuse panel. The bus bar has been mentioned i some of the other articles. I do not see that in my 86 GMC. I took a screen shot of it but not able to post it here. It is a very detailed wiring schematics for the fuel tanks. Just wondering if some one knew where ground wires behind the dash were attached, for example the black wire coming off the dash tank switch? Trying to find all grounding places to makes sure they a clean!

Re: Bus Bar Location
Like he said, its up above the e-brake on the kick panel. Hard to spot if you dont know what you are lookin for.
Easiest way to find it is to pull the gauges and look to the left on the bulkhead. Will have (I think) 6 spades on it. Bubba |

Re: Bus Bar Location
The fuse panel is on the firewall... The buss bar is on the LH kick panel.
Motornut posted some pictures with the dash mostly disassembled that show the buss bar. I haven't been able to find them but they do exist. It's really hard to see the sheet copper buss bar with the instrument cluster installed. You'll find it tucked behind the steel knee panel on the LH side kick panel between the door and the firewall just above the E-Brake pedal bracket.

Re: Bus Bar Location
In the dash where an ac vent would be in the hole you can just make it out not the best picture but it’s all I have of mine it’s bolted to the top of the e brake bracket

Re: Bus Bar Location
Thanks wileecoyote427, I went out to the local wrecking yard and I was able to find a truck with most of the dash removed and found the Bus Bar so I took a picture for future reference. Might be another ground site that needs to be cleaned!
On another truck I found it was mounted on the kick panel just to the left of the E brake bracket even a little bit higher up! Last edited by Nickelcharlie; 11-06-2018 at 11:56 PM. |

Re: Bus Bar Location
i dont see the empty screw hole were it would have been up on the kickpanel side of the cab .
