Air ride with front drums?
Okay, I'm new here so I hope this is the right place to ask and that it hasn't been asked a thousand times before.
I'm considering going with a Stage 1 air ride kit on my 69 C10. The deal is, I want to keep the 6 lug drum brake set up. Does anybody know if there would be any clearance issues or anything with running bags with the stock spindles and drums up front?

Nothing? I guess I'll have to give Porterbuilt a call.

Re: Air ride with front drums?
You shouldn't have any clearance problems with the drum brakes, but if you're keeping the stock control arms you won't lower it any if that's what you're trying to do. It might actually ride higher. You'll have to cut the stock bump stop brackets out to make room for the bags on the lower control arm. Then fabricate your own bump stops.
Here's a thread I made back when I was learning how air ride works... http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=651651 |

To each his own, but I have to ask: why??? Your about to drop some coin and labor, why not do brakes too? Huge upgrade in stopping power.

Re: Air ride with front drums?
I probably will go to front discs eventually, but for now I'm sticking with the drums to save a little cash at this point. The PO had put a torch to the springs so I will have to spend money on the suspension either way. I am planning to go ahead and put the money on the suspension that I want and get the truck back on the road, then start doing upgrades as budget allows. Besides, I do kind of like the old truck feel and actually having to drive it.
