3 Speed Transmission

Guys I need some help! My trans blew apart and I found another one local. The guy is saying it is out of an Impala; are they the same as our trucks?

1965 327sbc 3 on the tree swb truck, trans is a 3 speed with a 4 bolt side cover. The one from the impala is identical from the pictures.

Thanks so much

The case will bolt to the bell housing just fine, but make sure your tail shaft is the same length. Some 4 bolts have a long tail shaft, others have a shorter tail shaft. Since they are both 4 bolt covers, you can swap side covers to retain the truck shift forks

Re: 3 Speed Transmission

The diameter of the front bearing retainer may be smaller, in which case it will bolt to your bellhousing, but won't be indexed properly. You might want to check that - bearing retainer outside diameter should match the inside diameter of the round hole at rear of your bellhousing. You can probably swap over the bearing retainer from your truck transmission if they don't match.

Thanks for the heads up. I will check that as well.

Re: 3 Speed Transmission

Be sure to ask the seller of the Impala trans if it has EVER jumped third gear.
At least you'll be able to Hear him say it even if it does...
