Big back window
I bought a cab with a big back window with minimal rust the problem is it look like someone used a can opener on the firewall. It has gaping holes in several locations. I have a extra cab to cut panels out to patch it. My question is are there any aftermarket sources for a firewall to replace or cover it with something like stainless?
Any help will be greatly appreciated |

Re: Big back window
Depends on how bad yours is. The previous owners of my truck, cut and drilled a bunch of holes in the firewall and floor (88 extra to be exact). I spent a lot of hours welding, hammering and dollying my firewall.

Re: Big back window
Its not BIG BACK WINDOW.
Proper terminology is Panoramic View 60-63 or Full View 64-66. No one cares , i'll be quiet now.

Re: Big back window
And it's an AC cab as well. If the rest of the cab is decent, I think I would opt to just replace the entire firewall.

Re: Big back window
The rest of the cab is in very good shape. I have another firewall. The question for the group is. If I cut the parts that have been mangled and patch them in will there be enough support or should I try and replace the entire fire wall.

Re: Big back window
For me, it would take less time to replace the entire firewall. I would brace the cab, cut out the firewall, remove and weld in the firewall from the donor cab.

Re: Big back window
Pardon my lack of experience but what do you mean when you say "brace the cab"?

Re: Big back window
Since it appears that the cab is not mounted to the frame, and if you remove the firewall (a significant component to the structural integrity of the cab), it would be good idea to brace the cab before cutting out the firewall to keep it square while you cut, grind, hammer, weld, etc. Even if it was mounted to the frame, I would still tack weld in a few diagonal braces similar to this from a member on this forum:

Re: Big back window
Thanks that's is what I thought you meant. I keep asking myself what was i thinking.
It will certainly be a learning process. I already have a runner that I am going to 454 in so I will have plenty of time to do the cab work |
