Power Steering Lines w/ LS Pump
Good afternoon everyone,
I am trying to figure out how to run my power steering lines. I bought a new AC Delco pressure line that looks like will work with the stock pump, but I am having a problem with clearance on the LS pump. Both the old line and the new line do no clear the motor mount or a boss on the side of the block. What line is everyone running? Pictured below is the stock and new lines. I need something with a tighter bend coming out of the back of the pump to clear the motor mount. Any suggestions? EDIT: This is a 72 C10 Thanks! Last edited by beaterku; 01-02-2019 at 06:25 PM. |

not sure on your yr truck but I used the stock hoses on my 81..there were no clearance issues...

my 85 c-10 has 03 5.3 with a 6.0 p/s pump to feed the 1991 suburban c-10 hydroboost from a 6.2 diesel combo using the hydroboost lines from the suburban . all fit just fine and maybe a tiny tweek if that .
so my truck is c-10 with half ton hydroboost from a square body and powered by a 5.3 ls from a 03 yukon with a 03 p/s pump for a 2500/3500 with 6.0 to get me the hydroboost pump i needed . if your running the truck in the pic 67-72 then its NOT a o-ring seal hose pump . i have taken o-ring seal hoses and pump and used them on older trucks and cut off the steering box end and flared a double 45* flare and good to go . this might be your option .

On both my LS swaps 1 a c10 and 1 a k10 all I did was relax the bend on the pump end and added an adapter to the pump from metric to SAE.

Same here, just carefully bend the line to clear the boss on the block.

if you cannot get the line to clear and bending it to clear doesn't help then another option is to have a hydraulic hose made so you have plenty of flex. i have hydraulic lines on every part of my truck that carries any type of oil.

I think I bought a mid 90's line and had to bend it just slightly to clear.

My original hose was from an 03 Denali. It takes a pretty hard bend right out of the back of the pump. You might look that one up and see if would work better. As you know, I ended up having all of mine made.

Thanks for all of the help. Shown below is the AC Delco line I bought. You can see where it is interfering with the block and motor mount. The straight section going in to the pump is too long. My flaring tool dies are too long to shorten this section.
At the suggestion of the comments above, it looks like I can make the stock line work with a little "massaging". The only problem is, it is old and starting to show signs of cracking. I'd rather not use it if at all possible. The LS line I have came from an 03 denali, but it appears to go underneath the pump and around the bottom. My plan was to swap the flow valve on the back of the pump to the SBC style from my old pump so I don't have to use any adapters. |

I swaped out the fitting on the back of the pump with the one off my 71 hose clears fine thats wierd your dont clear

Yeah, it is very strange. I'm betting this AC Delco line is made to fit a number of applications. I am going to take it to a hydraulic shop and see if anything can be done to it.
