LS swap to a 72 K5
I have gathered most of the stuff I need to get the project going. I am down to the a rolling frame on the K5.
I will be buying the motor mounts for the 6.0 soon. This is my first LS swap so with the motor mounts for the 6.0 is there a clearance issue to the firewall? I am leaning toward the TH350/NP205 mostly because I have the set up ready to go. Clearance to the firewall? Does the block set any higher to where the normal 4WD high hump needs to be modified? Sort of been buying along and gathering so there are only a few huge expenditures as we go. Scott |

If you dont move the trans/transfer then the LS will be in the same location as the sb was ...

Re: LS swap to a 72 K5
What crossmember are you going to use? Stock will not fit the LS pans so either you will have to modify it, build your own or buy one. The ones on the market need to be used on a lifted truck. Like 2 “ minimum.
You have a high hump you won’t need to worry. Unless you relocate the the drivetrain like mongo stated. I did this. you can check out my build thread for what I did.

Dirty dingo DD is a kit I was thinking about. Good kit if you are lifting the truck.
Any questions ask away.

Re: LS swap to a 72 K5
I will check out the Dirty Dingo mounting kit.
It is rolling chassis now and it has a 4" lift kit. A friend of mine is putting a 6.2 (i think) in a 60/70 carryall 2WD. I am not sure what mounts he used but without measuring the motor looks both high and deep in the engine bay. He is using the 4L80. He had to do some trim work on the frame on the passenger side for the exhaust manifolds. He will need to do something to mount the AC compressor. I bought a 2003 2500HD with a 6.0. I should have everything to make it go but I want to set the engine and do all the modifications/trimming before I disassmeble and re-build the engine. The hardest part may end up being just getting started. Scott |
