Chevy S10 T5 WC Transmission in a '65 C20
Has anyone done a T5 update and install of the T5 transmission in a 60-66 truck and have you put miles on it and have good experience driving it on a 2WD truck?
Swap info here:http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s....php?p=4871869 My goal with my project is to keep my C20 a 3/4 ton rated truck but have better driving on the freeway. I'm thinking about keeping my full floating Eaton axle (Converted to a '72 4:10 ratio for 2WD truck) and swapping out the transmission instead of swapping the axle out to a Dana 70 or something like that. Would the T5 handle towing? Or do I keep the SM420 or go to SM465 and swap out the rear axle? |

T5 is not rated for trucks. The aluminum case will twist under load. Original tq is 400 or so go tko 500 or 600

Understood - Yes I would not want to have a transmission detonate under me while driving...
I wonder if the overdrive units out there for the sm465 are worth the trouble then since they are aluminum. Understand I'm new at this and trying to make something workable if possible. |

Here's what I did as an alternative to a T5 swap. Based on info, the AX15 is stronger than a GM T5. I don't have the truck I did this too anymore but I put several thousand miles and the guy who bought it from me did more.
I liked it enough I have another one sitting in my garage for my panel truck. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=475370
