New member intro
New member, first "official" thread. Can't believe the plethora of information here!
I just picked up a '70 long bed CST. Somewhat of a one-owner vehicle. Was purchased new by the owners grandfather, passed down to his father, and then to him. It has what I believe to be a unique color combo in the interior. It's got a 615 green vinyl cust trim so the headliner, sun visors, steering wheel/column, and a/c vent trim is medium green. And yes, the original color is orange/white but I believe it's been repainted once in it's lifetime. Will post pics once I get them uploaded. Was supposedly well maintained by the family but I'd like to start fresh. Looking for advice on maintenance items and things to check for. I'd like to eventually have it running like a top and daily driver reliable though I don't intend on driving it that much. Some things to do off the top of my head in addition to fixing all the little things that need restoring:

Welcome to the board! That's a nice looking truck you got there. What engine do you have in it? Looks like you're off to a good start. Tune it up, inspect your safety items, and enjoy it!

Re: New member intro
Welcome to the club Sloonz!
What is that in front of the rear wheel well centered in the trim? Kinda looks like a gas cap, can't say I've seen that before, not that I am all that experienced with these old trucks. As far as things to help determine the health of the truck... Wet and dry compression checks will tell you the condition of the rings and valves, Inspect thouroughly for rust at the body mounts, if you have not done so, Check the u-joints too, Fix any leaks - where possible, and, look at engine and tranny mounts for msuhy rubber rot and splits. Nice rig!

Re: New member intro
Welcome! Looking forward to more pics, but especially the SPID. You are correct that it has been repainted, that color scheme was not offered in 71 and the door window frames and A-pillars would have been white. Orange and white combos in 70 were white top (including window frames and A-pillar) and orange body (Conventional Two Tone - 553 RPO) or add white to that combo below the lower trim (Special Two Tone- 596 RPO). Your SPID would have to have one of those two codes if it were an original 70 orange/white combo truck. And the only orange in 70 was Hugger (also listed as red orange at times) - the lighter tangier orange wasn't available in 70. Looks nice! Thanks for sharing.

Color combo is pretty unique but I really like it. Can't wait to restore it. I'd like to do an aftermarket wheel like the Grant 969 but I want to find something in the same green color. Any ideas? Will post up more pics once the auto transport gets it here. Last edited by Sloonz; 02-20-2019 at 11:20 AM. |

I would leave all the green in it, even the steering wheel If you plan on doing that, let me know I’ve probably got some of the interior stuff you might need |

Re: New member intro
Check the back of the seat, might find a build sheet. I think I have seen a Green after market steering wheel, if that's the way your going. Original wheel could be repaired and painted....Nice score.

Re: New member intro
Yep, definitely keeping the color combo! The headliner and sun visors are the green as well. The steering wheel has a massive crack in the top the the hub area. Will be searching for aftermarket in the same color.

Re: New member intro
Agree with all. Love that green color! I see the steering wheel needs some love but man it's cool! JMHO but Hate to see you put an aftermarket wheel on it unless absolutely had to. Again, just my opinion. Do what makes you happy.

Re: New member intro
Great looking truck! Love the unique 70's only weird color options.
For a steering wheel you can get something like this one (the unwrapped option) and then take it to a local upholstery shop and they can wrap it in a color matched to the green of your current steering wheel! http://www.billetspecialties.com/hal...rd-15-5/34137/ |
