Steel dually rims with hubcaps?
I will post up the new project very soon (we all love pictures, I know I do for sure!). I purchased a 1988 Chevrolet V30 3+3 DRW that has a 8" lift and 37s" on at the moment. I am moving to a 4" lift with 35" and am in the process of choosing my rims.
I love the look of this wheel setup with the hubcaps below, but am wondering if I can replicate this look on my dually? I never have dealt with the hubcaps for our trucks and am looking for any info. Thanks.

Re: Steel dually rims with hubcaps?
Would be a nice look on a dually, I’m sure all it would take is $$. I have a couple ah duallys and I like that look. All the best on your project.

Re: Steel dually rims with hubcaps?
I've only ever seen full hubcaps or the 88 to maybe mid 90's dually centercaps. I have never seen a GM dually wheel with the little nubs the cap snaps onto. That's not to say they don't make them though.
I look forward to some pictures! |

Re: Steel dually rims with hubcaps?
They never made them for Budd wheels. You would need to devise a way to attach the single wheel hubcaps. I think the hubcaps wouldn't clear the hubs in the rear mounted driectly to the wheels.
What I like is customized Budd wheels with wider rims That crew cab is just my style... that I was rockin' in the '80s

Re: Steel dually rims with hubcaps?
Thanks for all the information and I think it is the simplicity of them that makes them one of my favorites.
Special-K - thank you for the photos and those are two great looking regular cab duallys.

Re: Steel dually rims with hubcaps?
possible conversion lug nuts with the 9/16" thread inside and the 88-up external threads used . then used or re-pop 88-up drw front and rear chrome hub caps . then pop the 2 front emblems out and cut the hole for the locking hub to pass threw it .

Re: Steel dually rims with hubcaps?
I found out on my '79 the lug seat angles are different than the conversion lugs. I don't remember what the angle is on the older stuff but I want to say it's 45 degree and the conversion lug is 60 degrees. I'll see if I can find some pictures.

Re: Steel dually rims with hubcaps?
just looked up the listing for both srw and drw lug nut . both 90* conical seat .
but the drw looks funny with the huge hex over the smaller srw hex size . i have drw lugs on my srw rims now long story but funny . . . .there doing just fine and no problems.

Re: Steel dually rims with hubcaps?
This is what I was talking about on the conversion or duplex lug nuts. They are different angles but I'm not sure how much of a problem it is in actual use.

Re: Steel dually rims with hubcaps?
I run Ford Accuride 7" wheels on GMT400s using the factory Duplex lug nuts with no problem. I don't know what angle the Ford wheels have, though, but assume the same as older GM steelies. I figure what matters is both wheel and lug nut are beveled to allow a centered seat. I have used aftermarket lug nuts as well as swapped all sorts of factory or aftermarket wheels without ever knowing bevel angles. never gave it a thought and never had an issue. I have never seen angle specified on aftermarket lug nuts. I always assumed that was a standardized angle.

Re: Steel dually rims with hubcaps?
OE dually caps are very similar as far as the appearance of the center + bowtie. I actually use/chose them because of the similarity to the OE 1/2 ton (5-star) & 3/4 ton (6-star) poverty/dog-dish caps.
My OBS '99 3/4 ton + 18' trailer (15"/5-lug wheels) have the dog dish caps slightly tweaked so they all look more alike....

Re: Steel dually rims with hubcaps?
The center area of the OE wheel cover look a whole lot like the 67/68 hubcaps, except for the black paint that looks a whole lot like the 76-91 hubcap centers. The more I look the more I like. When I bought a '78 in the early-80s I didn't like them at all and they came off right away. Funny how perceptions can change with time. They sure look good on your truck

At the moment, I am still shopping around for rims and will have to try a few different experiments to get this to work. @SCOTI - I have re-read your built a number of times. I really enjoyed the build and love the direction you went with the truck.

Re: Steel dually rims with hubcaps?
I like the painted Budds with the center trim sold with the simulators. You get the effect of the spinning lug nuts on the front, the center is covered the same as hubcaps, and you get the dish in the rear wheels, like the brown one above
