need tag info
Hi guys I'm new here and to the old trucks. I have a 1952 half ton three window truck but my tag says 4800 lbs on it, is this off something else that seems like a lot for a half ton. can anyone tell me what it is supposed to be. Thanks

Re: need tag info
its the gross max weight, so 3400 curb weight plus driver and gas and 1000 lbs is probably pretty close to 4600 pounds.

Re: need tag info
I have heard that the 3100 weighs a little over 3100 pounds. Maybe dry? I have always wondered if the 3600 weighs 3600 pounds. I'll be putting my 1/2 stock 53 three window on the race scales before I tear it down in a few days for a baseline on my build.

Re: need tag info
4800 lbs is the correct weight on the door tag for a 3100 1/2 ton. That is the max gross tonnage that the truck can be licensed for.
In this area if you don't plan to haul anything and don't plan to tow anything you can usually buy "minimum" tonnage on these trucks. It kind of depends on how tax happy they are in your area as some areas are going to hit you for the max tonnage for the truck just to get the $$ even though they know that the max load will be two lawn chairs, a cooler and a pair of duffle bags. If you go to the page for 1952 Trucks on the GM Herritage center you will find that they say the max payload is 1500 with the curb weight of the truck being 3250. That is a lot of weight for one of these trucks even though I may have had close to that on mine a time or two. Click on trucks and then click on 1952 trucks and you find a basket full of info on the 52 trucks. Your 1/2 ton will be the 3104. https://www.gmheritagecenter.com/gm-...tion-kits.html

Re: need tag info
Thanks for the info guys, this thing looks like it has been put together from parts and pieces so I thought maybe the cowl tag was off something else.

Re: need tag info
The only time that tag might come into play is if you were driving down the road loaded down with a big load of something and got pulled over by a state weghts and measured guy with portable scales and they checked the gross weight capacity of the truck and the tonnage you had paid. I doubt any of us will haul 1500+ lbs of scrap iron or lumber in our 3100 AD trucks even the guys who have a Beater 3100 that we do haul stuff with. That would be about 95 8 ft 2x6 fir boards @ 16 lbs each.
