Seat cover supplier? Tilt seat back?
Hey guys, I've owned my 72 C10 over 15 years and put over 65k miles on it. One of the first things I did when I got it was have the seat recovered with a factory style scroll cover... It's finally split open on me and I need a new one. I'm not looking for cheap, I want good quality that will last another 15 years or more. I don't want houndstooth... Just black vinyl. I've done a couple different searches and "truck world" keeps coming up. So, who's a vendor for them? Or is there a better option? Don't read that as "is there a cheaper option".
I also relocated the gas tank under the bed a few years ago. It seems like now would be a good time to modify the seat to tilt forward to make use of the space where the tank used to be. I've read a couple posts that mention removing a bolt from the passenger side of the seat that will allow it to tilt... But I also want it to have a latch... Anyone have any experience with this? I talked to a shop that had suggested finding a donor seat from a Ford pickup and robbing the latch mechanism for use on my current seat... Some welding/fabrication will be required... Anyway... Thoughts? Suggestions? |

Shot of gorilla glue on that tear and you're good for 20 years.

I got my correct cloth/vinyl "Custom" seat cover from these guys. It's nice.

Go to a Auto Upholstery Shop, they can fix that for you with matching material.

And I have doubts about anyone matching the material without having to build an entirely new pleated insert... and then it's still not going to match the other three. I would rather replace the entire cover and have it be correct and not "close" |

Asa! Good to hear from you - it's been a long time! I haven't been on the forums (or doing anything but working for last few years) but I changed jobs, and I've been able to play with cars and truck stuff for the first time in years!
Good luck on your search. Your red '72 is still one of my favorites! Do you still have the green and white 4X4?

Re: Seat cover supplier? Tilt seat back?
I think the quality covers are the PUI covers? I got mine years ago from Tim Christian, but I think he retired as well, so it's hard to know what brand someone is actually selling.
There's actually 4 screws that hold the frames together. Just remove the one closest to the back on each side and the seat will "tilt" forward. The issue with all the seat covers I've seen is they're all "69-72" so they have the side ears that cover the metal bracket that would tilt. You'd have to do something with that as well.
