what engine block do I have
Ok, I am currently going in circles trying to figure out what engine block I have in the '67 truck I bought. I have been doing research but keep coming to dead ends. I went back and tripled checked the numbers to make sure I had them right and looked some more and no luck.
Here is what I do know: -Cast on each side of the block is CFD 207 -Under the alternator is V0430FSD, (“V”=Flint, “0430”= April 30, “FSD”= ?? not on any list) and stamped below it is CF/203864. -Left side on the bell housing is 140 0207 (There is a blank between the zero's) -Back of the block on the right side is 109 The cylinder heads are 3782461 which I have found were used 302/327/350 blocks. The motor runs good and I really don't want to open it up to get bore and stroke info. Any help would be appreciated thanks. |

Re: what engine block do I have
The missing digit between the zeros is likely a 1 that wasn't stamped very well. If you look up that casting number you get 80-85 350. I didn't look for a long time, but inserting any other number besides a 1 came up with nothing.

Re: what engine block do I have
If the alternator mounts on the passenger side, and there are no accessory holes in the heads, I'd be checking that alternator mount. 67 mounted the alternator on the driver's side and all the passenger side mounts I've seen bolt to the head at the pivot point. I had a car that threw belts because a PO had rigged the alternator brackets...

Re: what engine block do I have
Both the dipstick and alternator are on the right side of the engine.
As far as putting the 1 in between the zero's I seen that but was uncertain on that part. This is turning into a real scavenger hunt |

Re: what engine block do I have
Chevy swapped to the right side dipstick around 1980. The 461 heads are infamous fuelie/double hump heads. They were the best performance head made in the mid 60’s, but could got with press-in studs and 1.94/1.50 in mid level SBC’s and with screw in studs, guide plates, and 2.02/1.60 valves in higher HP engines.
The 461’s also has a unique, closed 62cc chamber, as opposed to 64cc chamber of the 462 casting. The later performance heads such as the 186, 492, 041, 370’s and probably a few more I’m forgetting all shared the 462’s 64cc chamber.
