62 turn signal switch return/cancel

On my 62, when i Put the turn signal switch up to signal right and i turn, the knob drops back into place but the right turn light keeps flashing. I have to drop it down to signal left before it cancels the right turn light. The left works just fine. Is it the switch mechanism in the steering wheel or something else? The switch that is located at the bottom of the steering wheel under the dash was recently replaced.

Thanks

The part of the switch that actually flips the lever back to Center when you start straightening out the turn...

I may be speaking out of turn. I’m used to 64-66, here is a replacement switch

Re: 62 turn signal switch return/cancel

Take a look at the hub that holds the turn signal lever. On mine the hub would rotate and the cancel cams would get off center and do what you are describing - stay on in one direction and only cancel if you pull lever all the way in other direction. I centered the hub and tightened the three screws that hold it in place. The other thing you can check is that the bowden cable is secured to the column so it doesn't flex when you turn the signals on and off. I put a couple of cable ties on mine and it has been working pretty good.

Re: 62 turn signal switch return/cancel

I am having the same problem with the signals on my 62. Is there a certain position for the cancel cam? I think I have all the pieces just not in the correct order.

Re: 62 turn signal switch return/cancel

It has been a while since I fixed mine, but I think the screw that holds the turn signal lever should be centered in the hole when the signal is off. I would loosen the cable at the bottom of the steering column - which is where the electric happens - and the adjust the cancel mechanism and column housing so that it lines up the screw with the opening for the lever when the detents are in the middle. Tighten up the top then go to cable and switch at bottom of column. Put switch in center position and tighten. As long as you have the springs in place and the cable/stiff wire is free to move along the column, it should work. I think I added a couple of cable ties along the wire so it didn’t flex when the signal was activated.
