Insurance
I am shopping around for insurance on my 67, a friend suggested I use Haggerty or Grundy.
I have a garage but the mileage restriction is what has me worried. I have heard it only allows you to drive up to 3500 miles a year. that doesn't seem like very much. |

Re: Insurance
.
I've got Hagerty w/stated value and no mileage restriction. I've read Grundy is less expensive though. Hth, -klb

Re: Insurance
The Hartford has a partner group that does classics (American Modern Insurance). I pay no more than 300 a year for my 67, full coverage. They will require photos of the truck prior to issuing the policy.

Re: Insurance
I don't know why Hagerty is so dang high on trucks. I just renewed my policy for my 68 firebird and 65 mustang, both $25K value, and it's $425 total combined for both. I called about adding my C10 and it was going to be $400/yr for a 15K value.
I see it time and time again on here and my facebook groups of guys getting screwed out of money in accidents because they had "regular insurance", or they had to fight extremely hard to get paid. Classic insurance is the way to go.

Re: Insurance
Yeah, maybe it's age. My '72 ins. w/Haggerty runs about $168. I don't recall ever telling them the miles on the truck and I don't have to report it annually. They don't dictate how I use the truck or when, other than no cargo or commercial use.

Re: Insurance
I did a new quote, came back with $258/yr for 15K coverage on my C10. I put "stock" this time. Still almost $60 more per year for half the value of my cars? A lot depends on location. I'm near a decent sized small city with a quite sizable urban sprawl area. Lots of idiots to run into you. No reported accidents or tickets in almost 20 years.

Re: Insurance
Ah ha! I just ran stock vs. modified, I changed NOTHING else. I must have put modified when I got the $400 quote. I'd say when it comes down to it, take away the static drop and mine is pretty much "stock".

Re: Insurance
Thanks for the input. I ran into same thing with Haggerty. but I guess $300 a year isnt a killer.
Has anyone ever had to make a claim with them; how did it go? |

Re: Insurance
I had one with hagerty very smooth . Neighbors landscaper backed into my car . His insurance balked at the estimate and pretty much refused to work with me So I had hagerty pay then subro the damn gecko. You can see his hitch that did the damage. Backed up instead of forward.
I did all the work myself.

This was just a few weeks after the initial policy was written up from a phone conversation. I have had one claim after a gal ran into me. Hagerty handled it pretty good -- they paid up and the truck is back to lookin' good again. Hth, -klb

No errand running? What do they expect, to and from shows only?

Re: Insurance
As far as I'm concerned I'm just going to the gas station all the time.
I don't think that goes against any of their rules. Last edited by MySons68C20; 05-15-2019 at 01:18 PM. |

Re: Insurance
No need to lie with Hagerty. They give you "occasional use" options:
Define "occasional". Before it started raining buckets almost every Friday for the last 6 months, I was driving either the C10 or Mustang to work every Friday. I do think anything past "seasonal" and they either won't insure it as a classic or you're going to pay a really high rate, but I don't think many people really need anything past "pleasure" driving anyway.

Re: Insurance
No, pleasure driving is also allowed as much as you want without mileage limitations. I suppose if you got hit and had a bed full of lumber that would be called running errands and they might decide not to pay you.
