I love an original looking classic motor. Many of the chrome bling parts are nothing more than imported junk anyhow. Looks great!

Re: Detailed my 235 what you guys think?
Thank you everyone!! Been taking my time on this one!!
I do have a question about getting a good seal on the valve cover. I know there is info on this forum and online but I am stumped. I can’t ever get my valve cover to stop leaking. I’ve already straighten it as good as possible and flatten the holes. But it still leaks at certain spots. I tried just silicon on the cover side/dry on head. Leaks BAD. I’ve tried silicon in both sides, and minimum spots. I’ve tried a lot of silicon and tried a little bit. But can’t get it to stay leak proof no matter what. Tighten the screws down hand tight, I have the spread washer on as well Does anyone know any good tricks with these old 6’s or is this just another common character to these motors? Here is another update, I just put on this period correct decal. I got a extra 5hp boots. Lol Last edited by Isaiah92260; 06-12-2019 at 12:05 PM. |

Not sure about your the particulars of your exact engine but Permatex Right Stuff works very well when I have used it. Much better than Ultrablack Permatex. It costs twice as much and comes in a cheese whiz type can. You don't have to wait 24 hours for it to dry and test it either, only about 5 minutes.

Re: Detailed my 235 what you guys think?
Same problem on my old 53. I wound up using to cork gaskets. I mounted them dry .it worked for me.

Do you use it by itself or with a cork gasket put it on both sides or just on the valve cover side? |

Re: Detailed my 235 what you guys think?
I had to double cork my 1961 Cadillac. The cork thickness isn't what it was back in the day. Single isn't enough. I did use silicone on the outer surfaces and not in between the gaskets. Haven't had a leak in 5 years.
