Factory Square Body Detail Pics

For those that like to see factory square-body pictures, heres a link to a 1991 Suburban for sale, with only 15K on the OD over on the BAT site. FYI, I have no interest in the sale, though I also posted the link on the Suburban sub-forum, thought you truck guys might enjoy them too.

It's basically overspray (not intentional).

By 1991 Flint Assembly was using a Behr "Turbine Bell" apply system. Small cones, like showerheads, spun at high RPM (like 20,000 rpm) and "slung" the paint towards the vehicle.

The vehicle was electrically charged, such that you could see the paint mist change direction and stick to the back side of the subject panels. The main incentive was to minimize paint usage and overspray and thereby improve cost.

This one has better coverage than I remember, probably better than you would get with a traditional spray gun. I would imagine the Turbine Bell system is why it looks like the bottom of the vehicle is so well covered with body color paint.

One other thought (although not likely): if it was known to be Red Skelton's truck when it was going down the line then the guys may have done a better job than usual.

If you were following your own vehicle down the line they would sometimes ask and then take a little extra care on your behalf.
