Dana 44 oil capacity

So I installed a TA performance diff cover and am wondering about the oil level. Per their instructions I filled it until it slightly ran out of the fill hole on the cover. I seem to have a small leak from the yoke. Very slight, just a few drops. I don’t know if the fill hole is the same height as stock and it took about 2 1/2 quarts. Per them it has 1/2 quart extra capacity. What do you all think? Is it too full? Why would I have a slight leak in the yoke. This a rebuilt unit by a reputable shop. Is it normal to have this leak a little when the seals are new?

NO...leaks are not normal... my stock cover held about 1/2 gallon...they could have damaged the seal upon install..keep a eye on it for a few days..if it still leaks.I'd take it back to them...

Well I’m in the middle of the build so it will be a while to even have it running to get it to them. That sucks I may call them and see what they say. Is the seal easily replaceable? I have the tools to replace a seal I just don’t know much about the pinion and if it needs to be torqued properly after removal.

Depends on if the usd a crush sleeve eliminator or a crush sleeve....you might try rotating it some and see what happens...it could have some trash under the lip as well...

I’ll try that. Can I remove it and use a crush sleeve eliminator or a new crush sleeve? I have a torque wrench as well. I think I could do the work if needed.

Is the fill hole fine where I filled it to? Not too high?

if you change to a crush sleeve eliminator the pinion rotational torque will need to be reset..pretty much means the diff would need to be tore down....since its the front diff and not used as much as the rear I think id just leave the crush sleeve alone if that's what they put in there...ive changed seals before and just retorqued the pinion nut and got by with it

I’m hoping to get it up on jacks and spin it to see if there is something causing the leak. I did clean it up and repaint after the rebuild maybe some gunk got in there. I don’t know a lot about the differential. It’s annoying since I paid about $1500 to have it rebuilt and this is happening. I’ll have to look at my invoice to see if there is a crush sleeve on it.

So I looked closer and it wasn’t leaking from the differential. It must have been from the filler tube when I cleaned up and I just didn’t happen to notice it. I feel much better about that. Any opinions on the fill level? Is to the fill hole fine?
