engine size emblems below front side marker lens, what is correct?
Looking around at pictures all over the internet, I'm seeing some trucks with the "8-350" emblems for instance, under the front side marker. But most pictures I see, the truck does not have these. And I can't find any rhyme or reason (year, trim level, engine type etc) as to why these truck have or don't have the emblem. What is correct? with or without? I have a 70 c10 short stepside that has a 350 in it now. It originally was a 6 cyl I think. It does not have the holes in the fender for these emblems. But I found some new emblems at the swap meet and I'm not sure if I wanna use them or not.

If it came with an optional engine such as 292, 350 or 396/400 it got the corresponding emblem.

so... EVERYTHING except the base engine got an engine displacement emblem on the front fender? and also, what determined whether the emblem was placed under the side marker or on the fender behind the front wheel?

Correct - only optional engines had badges. Location was determined by year. Under the emblem for 69-70 and under the marker light for 71-72.

Re: engine size emblems below front side marker lens, what is correct?
My '69 C10 short step spid doesn't say which engine and there are no engine size badges on it. Original paint truck. It does callout a 3 speed automatic. The guy I bought it from said it didn't have an engine when he bought it but the previous owner said it was a 307 turbo 400. It has an original V8 wiring harness. So was the 307 considered a standard V8 if you ordered a V8 truck?

Yes, if your VIN starts CE or CCE, as opposed to CS or CCS and there is no engine option on the SPID, it was born with a 307.

Yes, and we seem are always finding out new things about the trucks. Reminds me of an old saying " When you think you have all the answers its because you haven't heard all the questions". There are pretty much no absolutes with these trucks.

Re: engine size emblems below front side marker lens, what is correct?
This is correct...On a side note, Gmc didn't have an emblem for engine size. And for more confusion, I think 68-70 4x4s had a 4 wheel drive emblem under the front marker light.

Re: engine size emblems below front side marker lens, what is correct?
Agreed. I have a GMC now and a previous 67 and the GMC never had an engine emblem. Does not mean a guy cant add one if they wish. I left mine without the badging. I did add all the other optional outside trim though.

Re: engine size emblems below front side marker lens, what is correct?
CE (E = eight) means V8 for all our years; CS (S = six) means 6 cylinder.
Base V8 in '67 = 283; base V8 '68 - '70 (at least, I think through '72) = 307 A '68 with a 327 should have a code on the SPID.

I mis read it. Unless it's called out it's born with a 307

True story. Top of my head there's a half dozen "is", "because" and "must be". None are true.

Re: engine size emblems below front side marker lens, what is correct?
67-68 didn't get engine badges. The c-40 and up may have had 366 or 427 on the side of the hood.

Re: engine size emblems below front side marker lens, what is correct?
For an example, my 1969 came from the factory as a 250 six cylinder. On the SPID sheet the Vin number has the letters CE which means it was born with the 250 six cylinder. I'm in the process of removing the 250 and installing 292. I have already drilled the holes below the C/10 emblem to install the 292 emblems. This is the same place that they were on the new 1969 that I bought in the fall of 1968. If it had came from the factory with the 292 it would have listed the engine as an option on the SPID, and the emblems would have been below the C/10 emblem as the one. I bought new.

Too Much Stuff,
You are absolutely correct about the CE and the CS, and I know that. I guess it pays to proof read our own words once in a while. Thank you for the correction, I sure wouldn't want to miss lead anyone. |
