Is This Door Hinge Weldable/fixable?
I've never welded but is this something that looks do-able (for an experienced welder) or do I need a new door? This is the driver's door, 1969. I showed some pictures of the damage caused by misalignment. Thanks,-BA

I think a good welder can get you fixed up, some new hinge pins and bushings while it's torn down.

Yep! Been there. Done that! Got the PO to knock a hundred off the price because of that problem.
It will require removing the door from the truck. If you have good glass I would remove it before having the welding done. Rolling the window down isn't enough to prevent damage. Welding sparks and glass just don't go together.

Re: Is This Door Hinge Weldable/fixable?
Thanks for the tip. I'm not familiar with the procedure (removing the glass) but I'm sure I can figure it out. I just don't know who around here would be good at this job. The last weld I had done, on a loose stake pocket, was amateur-hour work and the stake now comes up at an angle.

OK, got-er done today. $80 (I didn't haggle) and not too purdy but boy it's sure nice to have my door shutting and opening properly.

Re: Is This Door Hinge Weldable/fixable?
I agree it is a good feeling.
I recommend getting some paint on the welded areas soon. Both outside and inside. The fresh welds are quick to rust and once the demon gets started its hard to stop.

Re: Is This Door Hinge Weldable/fixable?
Here's how I fixed mine:
http://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vboa...d.php?t=712640 It appears that they "welded" the hinge right to the door. I'm no pro welder either, but it wasn't near as hard as I thought it was gonna be. Gary

Re: Is This Door Hinge Weldable/fixable?
That's a good idea even here in super dry L.A. things do occasionally rust.
