Tower

Other than the adapter plate, is this everything I need for the perches or towers? I feel like there should be another piece that bolts to the block that isn’t the adapter.

That in the pic is a 1989 suburban frame.

Depending on the frame the top holes will work, one of the bottom ones needs drilled and the other slotted slightly if I remember right. That is what I had to do on my 72, I had the short version of the frame bracket or perch. There are two versions of engine frame bracket, one roughly 10 inches long and the other around 12.

I didnt have to do any drilling or moving on mine...all v8 frame mounts stayed in place..the adapters bolted to the LS...the clamshells bolted to those....and it dropped in like a glove...

Report back on how they end up fitting. I tried them and wasnt as impressed with the longer ones vs. the short ones, but I think there is a thread in the faq forum where someone used the longer ones.

be aware there are two types of clam shells, the truck ones don't need mods, the car ones need the triangle raised portions ground off so they don't crack the aluminum LS adapter plates

see how in the pic these are the car style ones and how they have that horse shoe looking thing embossed, well if we were to flip them over that part would be raised not allowing them to sit flush against the aluminum LS adapters, so in that case they would have to be ground flat

the truck clam shells don't have the same design, so truck ones don't need the mod

Thanks. I ended getting the clamshells from the suburban. I don't think they have that embossed V.

The suburban 12 inch perches didn't seem to work. In the v8 holes they made the engine sit too high which caused it and the tranny to be at too much of an angle. I would have had to make a custom tranny mount.

One of the clamshells did have an embossed V on the clamshell like Gregski mentioned so I had to grind it off.

The stock 6 cylinder perches and mounts in the rear most holes (inline 6) are a good height but caused the passenger coils to hit the firewall. In the forward (v8) most holes, it looks like most everything lines up including a stock transmission mount. I just need to drill new lower holes for perch to crossmember.

The clamshell style perches/ mounts come off square body trucks. Apparently the perches that are 10 inches in length are the ones that will work.
