6.0L Gen IV L96 Cam Selection Help

Hey folks, ready to do my first LS swap...got a ton of parts, just trying to cross the finish line - hope I'm in the right spot!

I'm planning a L96/6L90E (out of a 2015 Express Van) swap going into a 71 Chevy Suburban that will be used for daily driving therefore drivability is very important. I want it to sound like a hot rod, have some grunt/pep, but still be reliable on the street. I plan to run a Holley single plane intake (https://www.delmospeed.com/product/dels3-kit-for-ls3/), Holley mid-mount serpentine system, Vintage Air A/C and power brakes. I'm assuming a factory torque converter came with the swap (long story), but am not sure what gears are in the rear end.

After talking with a Comp they recommended the following cam: https://www.compcams.com/xfi-rpm-hi-...-iv-w-vvt.html along with phaser and springs. Comp recommended their springs and push rods, but I'm likely going to get a set of both from Brian Tooley Racing. Do you think this will work well with the combo I described? As a reminder, this is going in a Suburban so I'm not trying to autocross it or anything, just want it to sound awesome, have some guts and be reliable.

All that being said, what do you guys think? Will this combo work out or do I need to keep fishing?

I got the btr stage 1 truck cam and spring kit....when I got it it had tooley and comp cams on the box...

I've got a good recommendation on the BTR truck cams, but I'm holding off on that option because I would have to ditch the VVT and I'd like to try to keep it since this will mainly be a street truck so hopefully I can get performance across a wider RPM range.

I've got a 71 suburban with a l96 6.0 and 6l90. I ditched the vvt and installed a ls2 timing chain and Texas speed 216/220 .550 lift cam. Love the cam, it has near stock drivability and sounds great. Picked up a ton of power and tq. I would highly recommend this setup. Stock converter as well

Thanks for the info! I'm subscribed to your thread already and your Burb is sweet! Unfortunately, I ordered my VVT cam yesterday so I'm going to go that route unless it just isn't working out, but good to know another option that has some miles on it and is working out.

I'm concerned about road manners because not only do I plan to drive the Suburban regularly, but I live in Los Angeles (i.e. - TONS of traffic) so I don't want something that can't handle that kind of driving. Let's hope the techs at Comp weren't faking it.

It's P/N: 189-402-13 and the specs are 218/232 at .050

IMHO that is an awesome cam for a truck that will be daily driven or towing or hauling.

Love to hear how your cam works AJ. I'm in the process of ordering the same cam for my L96. I really don't want to drop the VVT and the more I read about it over the last 12 months, most folks are coming around to the idea that keeping VVT is preferred if you can find a cam package that allows you to install a limiter.

It should be on my doorstep tomorrow so I will let you know how it goes! Well...truthfully, I'll probably get the cam installed soon, but won't get it fired up for a while.

No update yet. I got the cam installed pretty quickly, but that's about all I did. I just started up on it again.
