Can you ID this bracket?
I know it is an alternator bracket but what is it off of? If I could find one it looks like it would solve my lack of adjustment range I currently have. (see 2nd photo). The alternator hits the aftermarket valve cover.

Pretty sure that PCV needs to be on the other side to work right. Drivers side is a breath out and other side (passenger side) is a breath in. I may be totally wrong but I believe it works opposite from the way you have it hooked up.
Bracket I don’t know about but why not try a slightly longer belt?

The problem I have with the alternator at this point is that there is very little adjustment range available. The 2nd photo in the 1st post above is with the alternator as far to the water pump as it can go, hitting the valve cover. With it two blocked in that position it is all I can do to pry a new belt on the pulleys (or I remove both of the alternator bolts then put the belt on the pulleys and fight it into position while reinstalling the lower alternator bolt. A process that small impressionable children should not be exposed to.
Then when I tighten the alternator it goes go almost to the end of the adjustment range. (Photo below) After a couple hundred miles the belt streches some and starts to squeal when the compressor starts up. So then I readjust the tension but now it is at the end of the adjustment range and a couple thousand miles later it will start to squeal. And then it is time put a new belt on and start over again. If I had another 3/4 of adjustment range I would be golden. I saw the bracket shown in the second photo on another C10 but the owner didn't know what it was off of as he didn't do the work. Every photo I have seen of a 67-72 shows a bracket similar the one I am currently using. Used to be a guy could go to a wrecking yard and hunt for brackets but now days anything more than 15 years old goes straight to the shredder.

Maybe you just need a belt that sits higher in the groove.

The bracket in the first pic may be the alternator bracket for 1972 model sb motors. For pickups, I believe this bracket is a 72-only part like the doors, vent window screws, tow hooks, etc.

Here's what I believe is a factory braket on my 71 gmc. No power steering.it looks the same as yours. The taller aftermarket valve covers are your issue I would say. When I got rid of the ones in the picture for stock ones I got more room for the altinater

It appears from the photo provided that the fix is as simple as a shorter belt...but then again we aren't there.

That bracket you are lookig for can be found at Truck Shop in Orange Ca part number 67- 13502 upper small block v8 / alt bracket / 1800 243-8947 have nothing to do with this place ,just saying where you can find that specific bracket.

Thank you everyone for your help. It is now clear to me that the brackets for the alternator have been changed. I no longer have the stock 67 set up. It seems the PO used a 69-72 lower bracket and it looks as if they shortened and reshaped the stock 67 upper bracket when they installed the headers.
So my fix will be to get the proper upper bracket. Fortunately it looks like it was used on 69-72 trucks and other later model cars so it shouldn't be too tough to find one. Thanks again everyone.

I suggest you look only for the '72 bracket. I believe it'll give you more room.

Is there a different number of inches the bottom bracket holds the alternator away from the engine, between 72 and earlier years and aftermarket brackets? Or is buying the longer upper bracket the only thing that will allow more room? I have a 1969 truck with stock bracket and with a newer alternator it could benefit from a longer lower bracket.

To clarify, the upper bracket for 72 is a 1972 only bracket design.

Don’t know if it helps or muddies the waters: I have a ‘70 with the correct alt bracket setup. I had some taller MT valve covers on it and had your same problem. The stock belt length was too short to allow me to slip the belt over the alt pulley at all. The next longest belt I could find allowed me to pry it over the alt pulley but it maxed out the adjustment and the belt would squeal a lot.
Went back to factory valve covers and stock belt, all better again.
