S10 gas tank filler pics

I'm using the stock S10 tank in the stock position and would like to see pics of how you mounted the filler in the bedside.

I know some have use the stake pocket, but I'm going to have wood on the bed rails.

So if you have pictures of how you did it, I'd sure like to see them.

Thaks.

Re: S10 gas tank filler pics

my advice: cut an oval hole and leave a bit of the pipe to stick through. make the hole big enough for the filler to pass through and use some pinch moulding to cover the sharp edge.

I have done a bunch, it sure LOOKS cool to have the filler cap almost flush with the bedside. it is an absolute pain in the poker to accomplish though because you have to trim the filler neck until it fits there, and then mounting or taking the bed back off requires taking that filler neck off the tank, from underneath, behind the apron and in between the frame and inside of the bedside.

its also super short and having it 90 degrees from the tank means it needs to turn almost 90 to attach, which means when you fill it it will always be spitting back and shutting off the pump.

I leave mine about 3-5 inches stickout, and it lets it be at the natural angle of the filler neck.

here is one mounted flush

here is the last one I did flush.

here is the first I did with stickout. remember the 41 bed is narrower than the 47 so it looks to stickout a lot more.

here is the most recent

taking the bed off or putting in on takes no extra time except remembering to pull the gas cap (ruins the cap! ask me how I know)

Joe, here are some pictures of the filler tube I got.

Is this the one you've been working with? With that triangle piece welded to the mouth of the filler tube, I may have to mount it close to the bed with that on the back side of the bed side. Then cut the tube and use a short section of flex hose.

What do you think?

well a couple have looked like that, they changed in 2001 so the last couple I have done have been slightly different (no vent in the tube, necked down diameter)

but if your thought is that it will all fit behind the bedside, let me just say no way. you will cut it down to be about 5 inches long total with the vent tube in there still, and that is with the shortest piece of rubber coupling hose.

this is one of those things, you have to see it to visualize it (literally, I know that sounds intuitive but seriously, your brain cant understand the dimensions till you actually see it in the space). so take a piece of chalk and mark a straight line on the back of the cab where the bedside is, then mark another line that is perpendicular to the first on the back of the cab where the bottom of the bed floor is. then take the bed off and hold that tube against the tank. you will instantly understand what I am talking about. now imagine that little piece of filler attached to the bed side, and a rubber coupling, and trying to work your hand in there to get the hose clamps tight. its diabolical.

even with the stickout, I still have to shorten the filler necks. for that triangle of mounting I just use a zip disc and cut it off then grind smooth.

Re: S10 gas tank filler pics

On my '52, I measured the stock hole on the RH side of the cab and made one the same size on the LH bed side. Then I measured how long the filler tube needed to be and welded part of the S10 filler tube to part of the stock '52 filler neck. Lastly I used the stock '52 rubber grommet around the new hole.

Re: S10 gas tank filler pics

nice work fifty two, looks like you used the stickout too! I am ashamed how long I fought those first few.

Re: S10 gas tank filler pics

Another one. Also I just shortened the s10 one and used the 52 grommet. I also found a nice harley davidson cap to fit it so it looked old school.
