Auto six speed differences.

I recently was given a 2016 6l80E with 56 thousand miles. It came out of a van so it has the slip yoke. The motor that it was attached to was a LQ9. My question is what is the difference in this trans and the six speeds that come in the Camaro size ect. I know the Camaro has that funky fixed yoke. Also what the difference between this trans and the 6L90. Trans GURU’S please help.

they did not make a LQ9 engine that year.. the last year for the lq9 was 2006... can you get a vin number?...and if it came out of a 2016 van it would be the L90E not the 6L80E.... and the engine would be the L96 6.0 engine...

Ok I’ll ask my friend. Think he has the vin. I know the engine is a 6.0 cast block with aluminum heads.

Ask your friend what the RPO code is for the trans, it will tell you if its a 80 or 90. Ask your friend for the driveshaft for you to use the front yoke off of it. Its free. one less thing for you to buy when you build your driveshaft to fit the vehicle.

Re: Auto six speed differences.

The RPO codes are normally found in the glove box or inside the drivers door ID sticker.

It will be a 3 letter RPO code.
The 6l80 will be MYC
The 6l90 will be MYD I believe.

Re: Auto six speed differences.

Sorry for the late response. Thanks for the info guys. I would get the info off the van but it’s already been burned up for the local fire department training. So then what is the difference in this six speed and the ones that come in Camaro.

Re: Auto six speed differences.

The camaro uses a 6L80E..... alot smaller transmission than the truck and van 6L90E..... the camaro uses a fixed yoke... the truck and van uses a slip yoke.... but both do have a internal TCM.(transmission control module)... be carefull if you try to use this trans... it does require that the tcm to be flashed... and it wont work with all engine computers......
