What are the key points that you cover or problems you resolve during the rebuild?

What do you charge for pins and bushings?

Re: Rebuilt door hinges - Highway by the sea
Seriously now.
I bead blast them to remove loose paint and scale, i dont bead blast to white metal because its not needed and i only use fine media in by blast cabinet. I resurface the load bearing surface of the hinges on a belt sander. On that set i installed a new repro set of “brake pads” on the drivers side to help keep the door open, highway by the sea suppled the pads from classic parts.com Install new bushings, lube and install new pins. I cut the pins to the proper length and chamfer them This is the first time i have used the new “brake pads” they fit fine and seem to have adequate and not excessive friction, they are constructed of a plastic type material instead of the original brake pad type material. Cost is $110 which includes new pins and bushings plus $17 return shipping I have some hinges cores at $15 per hinge if needed. |

That seems like a very reasonable deal. Such a hassle to do and my guess is most of us don't have the right equipment to do the thorough job you do.
I did a set a million years ago ... ugh. Next set I had done, doors and barn doors for my panel, I sent down to TxFireman. He blasted them, all new goodies, then powder coated them black. He's not around anymore. Ill have some more I want done, good to know Randy can do them for me ... Let someone else curse and bust their knuckles on this job =) |
