vent window setting tape thickness?
I'm in the process of rebuilding my 65's vent windows (wing windows?). I need to put the glass back into the metal frame. I'm going to try to source some setting tape locally to save some time. Does anyone know which thickness is correct?

Re: vent window setting tape thickness?
Don't go by what other people have used. Take the time to measure since I have found different glass have different thicknesses.
Measure the thickness of the glass, then the width of the channel that glass fits into. Subtract the width of glass from the width of the channel and then divide this by two. This will represent the tape thickness needed for your application. The tape should be slightly thicker than the gap if there is a difference between a tape thickness too thin.

alternatively, 3M urethane windshield sealant works nicely. you just trim off the extra with a razor after it dries.
I ended up using it on the vents and rollups when i couldn't find the right size setting tape in my toolbox and wanted to get it done that day.

Might be a good plan Cohi. I wasn't relishing the idea of trying to jam that glass and rubber into the channel.

If you decide to go that route, Autozone usually has a tube or two on the shelf

Re: vent window setting tape thickness?
It's actually pretty easy with a foaming dishsoap dispenser. I've used window sealant before at customer requests, but always had a difficult time keeping the glass centered and straight in the channel. The setting tape removes that variable.
