1972 GMC Stepside 4X4
Hey guys,
Picked up the truck and the pictures are below! I'll be picking up a '72 GMC 1/2 ton 4X4 on Sunday. It still retains it's original metal, with no rust on the rockers, and/or cab corners. Slight rust on the bottom of the doors, yet nothing showing on the face of the door. Kind of odd as it has the options of bucket seats, tilt wheel, AC, Posi-traction, Parchment trim, yet no special trim on the outside of it. Original 350 with a 4 speed transmission. Motor has never been out, has 140K miles and runs incredibly well. It is a short step-side bed and it's in great condition except for a bit of damage on the right front fender. Does anybody know how many of the GMC step-sides 4x4 were made? I read one website where it said there were only 1736 of the Chevrolet 4x4 step-sides made (1/2 ton, short wheelbase). But I can't find any information on the GMC models. Thanks, Pat Last edited by Ptjsk; 09-22-2019 at 07:34 PM. |

Re: 1972 GMC Stepside 4X4
The Chevy Stepsides, GMC Fendersides*, and all cab & chassis got no exterior trim after '68. Sounds like a great find!
* Time to get used to using the right name now that you own one

OK, you got me hooked. This thread is now worthless to me until I see photos.
Great find!!!! Cannot wait to see a photo so I can covet yet another truck someone else owns.

Re: 1972 GMC Stepside 4X4
Sounds like a great find Pat, can’t wait to see pics. Just so you know, none of those options listed have anything to do with side trim, even on a fleet side truck. They are separate RPOs and could be ordered on a base truck or a Sierra Grande (ie any trim level). Side trim is generally tied to trim level on fleetside trucks, but could also be ordered without it as trim level increased or added as trim level decreased.

Re: 1972 GMC Stepside 4X4
Ok, here's the truck.
It's a 1972 GMC with 104,XXX original miles. Truck was bought in Nevada and brought to California many decades ago. I was able to purchase from the 2nd owner (who knew the original owner). Lot's of original paperwork! Check out the inside cab corners. Very little rust on this one. Pat |

Pretty clean truck overall! Runs great too!
Will be looking for a right side front fender for replacement of this damaged one. Thanks for looking, Pat |

Re: 1972 GMC Stepside 4X4
Thanks for the positive comments guys!
I too find it an odd combination of options. Who orders AC, Tilt Wheel, Buckets, Posi-traction, but no guage package? LOL! Pat |

Re: 1972 GMC Stepside 4X4
Looks great, very peculiar optioning, but that just increases the cool factor.
Love the 3 holed gauge cluster on a high optioned truck. Good luck with it |

I don’t typically get jealous of other people’s rides, but I’m damn jealous of you.
What a beautiful little truck!!!

Really nice truck! Did the bucket option automatically give you carpet? Wondering if anyone knows

Re: 1972 GMC Stepside 4X4
As far as I know bucket seats got you floor carpet and gas tank carpet.
