1968 GMC Buzzsaw Build
I’ve been off this board for a few years now. My wife and I now have 3 boys - twin 6 year olds and a 2 year old. All have the speed bug and need to go fast. I’m finally at a point where I can get back into the C10 game and recently picked up a longterm project: A 1968 GMC 1/2 ton SWB, 2 owner truck from Fremont, CA. I’m the 3rd owner, this truck changed hands back in 1982. I started the YOM plate process yesterday at the DMV in Vallejo, battled an angry old lady to get the original yellow on black plates back on the truck.
I’ve been looking for a few years for a highly optioned truck - trim, A/C, V8, etc. But, I’m starting to realize there is only so much time in life for car projects. I don’t know if I’ll ever get to a Gen 2 Camaro build to throw around the track. So why not combine the 2? Race cars were stripped down, no console, no extras to keep them light. So I’m starting with a base truck, a manual 3 spd on the column with an inline 6. The plan is to do a Choppin’ Block front kit with coilovers, rear link, 6.0 all aluminum LS, the L76 Holden engine with a 6 speed. Something that will be fun to drive sideways when I have some alone time. The interior will stay the same color combo, but we’re going to use the iconic Ferrari red - Rosso Corsa. I have an idea for a 40/20/40 bench seat, something to help you stay in place around corners. Red leather will match the dash and door panels, but I’d like red and white houndstooth inserts. Something down the side to tie in the red on the exterior, more to come on that later. Here’s what we’re starting with, pretty excited to get back and plugged in with the C10 Club. If you’re in the SF Bay Area East Bay, get at me. Always around to help with projects and growing my C10 network. ✌️ On IG as sighlurr Last edited by sighlurr; 10-13-2019 at 11:37 PM. |

Welcome back! That looks like a very nice start to a project. Keep the progress pictures coming. Or start a build thread so we can follow along.

Re: 1968 GMC Buzzsaw Build
Over the next few months this truck will have a few different looks. Next week I’m going to throw on a set of 15” slots with some Cooper Cobra meats. I’ll run those until the camper shell and wheels/ tires sell here locally. Then I’ll go back to the steelies (painted black) and stock 68 GMC caps. I need 4 ‘68 gray caps for nubs and these are getting tough to find.
a1vintage69 hooked me up with a pair of GMC center caps for clips. Seems like a quick conversion from clips to nubs. |

I left about 1/8” to be safe, but ended up trimming this down to the seam
and rolled it in. |
