Front sway bar search for stock 66 - going to try salvage- what to look for?

I am planning on visiting some salvage yards and see if there any sway bars that will work for my stock height 66. From what I understand I need to be looking for 1973-1989 3/4 ton Chevy trucks. Is this right?

Also to make sure I get what I need, I think it should look like this pic from Woogeroo. This right?

Probably not many installed but it's listed as an option when the front suspension switched in 63 so start your search there and they are used on 1/2 and 1-ton models also. I have a 66 with one and they are fairly common 67-72. Yes, that is the setup you're looking for.

On my 64 I used a sway bar from a 76 one ton dually - it had a 1-1/4" bar on it if I remember correctly. The set up looks exactly as the one you pictured.

Definitely grab the 1 and a quarter inch bar. I got one off a squarebody 3/4 ton in a u pull it type yard. You will want to take all 4 of the clamps with bushings that the bar uses. Keep the old bushings to use while you mock the bar up. That's what I did, and the new bushings that I put on fit great.

I also had to get some frame stands to mount the front of the bar to the frame. If you have something to remove the rivets on the truck in the junkyard, you could do that, but if not, you can get new frame stands from a few vendors. I went with stock height stands because I'm still at stock height.

Check out page 3 of my build thread to see how I installed mine. Yours will be easier to install since you should already have the LCA holes drilled from the factory. My 63 LCAs didn't have the factory holes

Thanks 64shortbox, the 1-1/4 inch bar is what Im after now. Ill have a tape measure to check the width of the bar. If I can find a sway bar.

So I may be buying a pair of stands if the fronts are riveted. Good to know. Ill be looking at your build thread once I get what I need, thanks!

Swaybars from 73-87 2wd trucks interchange onto earlier trucks. The larger trucks like 3/4 and 1 tons typically had larger bars on them from the factory.

Re: Front sway bar search for stock 66 - going to try salvage- what to look for?

Would this sway bar work for my 66 thats been converted to disc for a 72 or 73 disc?

https://www.summitracing.com/parts/clp-cpp7423/reviews/

Im trying to weigh out one that was sent to me by a buddy who was going to get this for me at $100 with the frame mounting brackets removed as well.

He said its from a 83 3/4 ton. Id have to sandblast and paint and buy new bushings.

Yeah that's my truck. All of the front end components are from a 75 chevy 1/2 ton. I mean also the upper and lower control arms and all the steering.
