What to do???

I have 2 78's 1 c-10 and 1 c-20 the motor and trans are excellent on the 20 but the body's shot , now the 10 body is much much better but the motor and trannys gone. OK heres the problem the 20 has a title but the 10 doesn't. I was going to swap the cab and everything on the 20 chasis but the I thought why not just swap the vin plate and motor and trans because either way I would need to swap the cab and vin. Whay do ya'll think I should do?

Isn't the 78 VIN plate on the door? Should be easy to swap them out. Drill it out and repop the rivets in. Plus if you keep the 20 title then if you have emissions they may be easier being a "work" truck with it have a heavier GVWR ratio.

There is a way to do this legally thru the DMV. A friend of mine used a 87 cab on a 78 frame and they let him use the 78 vin on it. It will take a few calls!!

Yeah, its technically illegal, but if you keep everything quiet nobody is going to ever ask questions. Nobody really cares about a 20 year old truck getting switched from a Light to heavy duty.

technically, you're not upgrading "duty". light duty trucks are typically up to 1 ton, anything bigger than that is considered medium duty. i'm not sure at what point they consider them heavy duty.
