Anyone make their own Glove Box Spring?

Mine does not want to help open the door anymore.
Its just a straight piece of spring steel with a hogs tail at one end and a bend on the other end.

I think original poster is looking for the spring on the hinge.
Spring steel and for $24 just buy a new one.
Most c10 suppliers sell them. I changed mine out and works great.

Its not the latch that is worn out, it is the spring that is also the Hinge pin for the piano hinge on the glove box,
The spring is supposed to Assist the opening of the glove box.

I have mine apart right not and I can tell you from paint the hinge and reassembly. That is a hardened steel piece. No soft, or hot rolled piece of steel.

They are difficult to bend without heat and you risk losing the temper after that. I would be guessing its not installed correctly if it will not open the door at all. My door will stick shut so I am in the same boat. Have to give it a slap to get it to open.

They did not coat this spring with anything other than maybe a lubricant so the rust in the hinge and all the holes it runs through could be a culprit!

Mine does not "pop" open ether. I just figured it was a 2 hand operation. Every one ive messed with is that way. Of course that could be because they are just as worn out.

Here are pictures showing how the ends of the "spring" should be positioned. The spring is actually the "hinge pin" which also serves as a spring.

They will pop open with one finger if the latch is lubed and the rubber bumpers for the door are in place in the dash. They help push the door open and the spring does the rest. Without the rubber bumpers it becomes a two hand operation

I can't remember if it has the rubber bumpers or not. I think it does. I know I loobed up the lach nice and good. It was sticking.

Make sure that the bolt on the latch/lock is retracting all the way. The locks get worn on the inside and the bolt does not retract all the way so it doesn't release until you smack it. Try some spray lube in around the latch bolt and see what it does. Push the latch bolt down and spray it down inside.

Yep, most of the time it is because the spring is not positioned correctly when the hinge and/or door is installed. If the torsion spring is not broken I have never seen them lose their tension.

Edit: I did have one once that was bent because the stop arm was bent and came out of the slot and let the door fall all the way down. I just took two pairs of electricians pliers and bent it back.

my spring/pin was broke in the middle took a while to figure out why the door rattled all the time
