1969 & 1970 Correct Blazer Mirrors

Prior to the introduction of the sport mirrors in 1971, Blazers and Jimmys came standard with the 5x7 rectangular mirror and a painted arm. This differs from the trucks that had the round mirrors. Based on some comments throughout this forum, it seems that in some instances, 1969 blazers came with the round mirrors from the factory. What i am unsure about, is what finishes the 5x7 mirrors came in, and what the standard finish was for each trim...

It is safe to assume that the base blazer came standard with the white 5x7 rectangular mirror? Looking at this marketing photo from 1970, I would assume that the custom trim can standard with the white mirror as well. Was non-white also an option?

Based on this CST marketing photo from 1969, It appears as though the base or at least optional finish was not white. The finish also does not appear to be chrome and looks more like an anodized/brushed finish. This would contradict the chrome 5x7 mirrors available in reproduction. Can anyone comment on what finish the higher trim Blazers mirrors had in 69/70.

For what it is worth, both pictured are 70 models. I have numerous brochures showing 69s with round mirrors and red lockouts.

Re: 1969 & 1970 Correct Blazer Mirrors

I believe 69 CST were outfitted with standard base mirrors found on pickups unless outfitted with optional DG4/D29 below eyeline mirrors. Same holds true for 71-72 K5s, which used base mirrors unless camper mirrors were ordered. Factory literature describing the CST option for 69 makes no mention of mirrors. Whether or not they were round I’d have to defer to someone else. I’ve got a few “survivor” pics and both mirror shapes are depicted fwiw.

What I’d like to know is whether or not the optional below eyeline mirror was that used for the 71 pickup. If I was building a stockish 69 I’d make use of these in stainless (DG4) over the base style.

The yellow blazer is technically a 70, due to the blue hubs and the brochure it was found in, but i believe it's actually just an "studio" altered version of the yellow blazer with red hubs from the 69 brochure. Zoom in to the top right picture to see the same photo at a slightly different angle and with red hubs.

What is interesting is that the cover truck and the yellow blazer in the top right appear to be the same truck at the same location. Yet they have different mirrors.

Re: 1969 & 1970 Correct Blazer Mirrors

Here is another 1969 brochure that shows the 5x7 mirrors with a greyish silver finish. Perhaps both the rounds and rectangular mirrors were available, or that the rounds were replaced as standard option in preproduction

Re: 1969 & 1970 Correct Blazer Mirrors

My 70 has red hub lockouts and the 5x7 non painted mirrors. Of course I know one mirror is a reproduction but the other is stock from what I know. And my blazer is pretty basic base model

I believe the blue blazer in the 1969 brochure myself and Too much stuff posted shows the below eyeline mirrors. Not sure if they're the same as the 71 pickup ones or not.

Can you post a picture of your original 5x7 mirror in non-white finish?

Re: 1969 & 1970 Correct Blazer Mirrors

I’m not 100% it’s original. Crap. I just looked at them. They are identical so they must’ve been replaced as a pair. I know the driver was missing when I got the blazer in 2012. I must’ve replaced both to keep them the same. Now I’m trying to remember if the passenger was painted or not.

Re: 1969 & 1970 Correct Blazer Mirrors

Do we know which of these styles of mirror heads is original to the 69/70 blazers, or were both offered at some point?

I went through all my brochures and it looks like all of the blazer/jimmy brochures are lumped together in 2wd and 4wd in the same book.
