stock oil pressure line fix tip

Hey all, hope this info might help others to repair their stock oil pressure gauge.

I cracked my copper oil pressure line and was trying to locate a original type brass fitting for the gauge side. Everyone was trying to sell me a universal kit.

While surfing the net, i came across a 63-67 Corvette oil pressure repair kit and noticed it looked just like my original brass fitting.

it also had a NAPA Part Number for the brass fitting.

Here it is NAPA part # WH 6100X2 $1.62

when you install it, the fitting crushes around the brass line and seals it.

That's a number worth saving The Weatherhead number that you can even find at ACE is Eaton Weatherhead # 6100X2

think i will try one. The copper line and slip on ferrule does not seem to want to work for me.

What I did was cut the existing copper tub (Dremel cut off wheel) about an inch (where it was straight), made sure there was no bur on the edge and cleaned the end (dremel wire brush) slipped it on and snugged. so far no leaks

You are going to need the correct fitting for the gauge you have. they don't interchange.

I have the original oil pressure gauge in my 57 truck. The only difference i found was the the original brass fitting used a 5/16 open end wrench and the vette used 3/8 inch wrench. the thread and length of the brass fitting were the same. I'm not sure of the differences mentioned, but for my truck it was a direct replacement. I have driven the truck a few times since the repair and I have not had a leak.

i'm not sure if there are some variations between years, regarding oil pressure gauges.

time will tell.

Ok I may have miss read what you wrote yesterday when you mentioned the ferrule and nut.

The dremel probably worked fine but the only issue with cutting any metal with a cut off disk is that you work harden the area of the cut with the heat from cutting. Sounds like you did it right and better than my worn out small tube cutter would have done.
