Heater core removal

I know there’s a few post on here already about this but I have seen many different opinions and I’m still scratching my head, so im working on my firewall cleaning it up and painting it, and I decided to delete my heater core and blower, right now I don’t have much use for it and maybe down the road I’ll invest into vintage air or something around those lines, so question is can I just put plugs on the water pump where the hose connects and the intake manifold where the other hose connects to, or do I need to keep the hose and just route it from water pump straight to manifold. I would think just plugging the ports off should have no affect but I’ve read other wise. Thanks in advance for any input.
