Re: Gas Pumps Won’t Pump Gas
Check that your vent hose is clear first. I had a dodge that I had to drive up on 4x4 block on the tank side for it to take fuel.

Re: Gas Pumps Won’t Pump Gas
different stations with different style pumps cause issues...theres 4-5 stations around here I avoid because of that problem...I have no issues with the others
but like dmack says....check the vent

Re: Gas Pumps Won’t Pump Gas
I doubt if it's an issue w/ the pump. More likely the vehicle. Squares have a horizontal run on the gas fill that made them spit gas when they ere young. I'll guess the gpm rate is faster these days.

Re: Gas Pumps Won’t Pump Gas
Yup the vent isn't working. One of my trucks takes gas very slow because I am too lazy to fix the vent. My other truck drinks gas like a boss. I put the pump on wide open and let her fill. Both 76's.

Re: Gas Pumps Won’t Pump Gas
I have found that even in OK where we don't have vapor capture nozzles, filling at stations where I can get the front of the truck a bit lower then the rear really helps. It doesn't take much slope to make a big difference.

Sometimes you have to pull out a little.............sounds weird just typing that lol . I have found that works best at certain stations.

Re: Gas Pumps Won’t Pump Gas
It could very well be a california thing. Still verify the vent it good though.
My 18 Silverado I have to turn the nozzle upside down to work. My 15 Focus I had to push it just the right amount. My last C20 was all over the map, but usually upside down did the trick. Alot of it has to do with Gpm and pressure sensors to avoid reversion or aka spilling. The AQMD has mandated sensitive pumps which can make things a nightmare. I use many different pumps around Pasadena to Corona, and well in to Bishop area. The all f me. |

Re: Gas Pumps Won’t Pump Gas
assuming the dispenser isn't defective, filters clogged, or some other maintenance issues... once the pump is authorized, turn on the pump either by selecting grade or lifting the hook on older styles and wait for the head to fill, approx. 10 seconds or sometimes on vst systems you can hear it when there's full head pressure the pump changes tone.. then open the nozzle.. opening the nozzle before the head above the pump is full of fuel all the way to the grade selector and check valves may slow down the performance of the pump..
I am an icc licensed ca ust designated operator but I work in closed fleet not retail so there may be differences I am not aware of.. after about a dozen pages of all the regulations, my eyes cross and smoke rises out of my ears https://www.waterboards.ca.gov/water....html#operator https://www.iccsafe.org/wp-content/u...uc_content.pdf

Re: Gas Pumps Won’t Pump Gas
Some stations I have gone to with past squares I`ve had to pull up the rubber boot on the dispenser to get it to pump

Quote:
the purpose of this tension is to create adequate vapor seal which returns through the outer wall of the hose, the inner wall carries the liquid.. they do go bad, however usually fail to release when boot is relaxed and ironically, they all almost always smell of fumes when fueling, I don't think I've ever seen one work as intended.. however the healy systems with an active vapor vacuum pump work much better.. the fuel travels in the outer wall and the vapor through the inner wall of the hose.. happy motoring

Re: Gas Pumps Won’t Pump Gas
Oh yeah, those new style pumps suck on any vehicle. I have never tried those on my truck. They used to have those pumps in NH and my Buick wouldn't fill right either. I'm glad NH got rid of them.

Re: Gas Pumps Won’t Pump Gas
I have to do this with my motorcycle. Just pull the round boot thing on the nozzle towards the handle. You will get the darn thing to think it is sealed and it will work. Just be careful, the fuel will spit out of the tank like a........ Well, I think you get the picture. LOL.
