Can I leave this in place?
Is it okay to leave this zerk fitting in place or should I remove and replace it with a plug? I don't need it for my oil pressure reading. Thanks.

I wouldn't leave it. Either get the right plug to block it off or get another bypass block without a hole in it.

I still have my truck pan, I could rob that block from it, it doesn't have that fitting in it. I was trying to avoid having to replace that gasket though.

It looks like 1/8" pipe thread, the same as most older oil pressure senders. Probably why it was put there in the first place if I had to guess.

yah, that was never intended to have a grease fitting, it's there to plug what is most likely an 1/8" npt tapped hole..
there are some odd metric grease fitting threads out there but this wasn't intended to be one so more likely npt.. and while it should easily hold the internal oil pressure, I would replace it with a hex plug for the cleanest profile.. in case you even take it to jiffy lube and some dingbat pumps grease in there until it squeezes out of the carburetor

Just buy a new factory style bypass. They are cheap, and it will give you piece of mind.

Don't worry too much about the gasket it's an o-ring. Not to say you can't but I've never replaced the o-ring if it looks like it's in good shape. Having said that they can't be expensive.

Thanks for all the great advice guys! I am gonna go with 95 S_Trucker and just replace the block with the bypass style.

I don’t think Jiffy Lube owns a grease gun in the last 20 years. They never grease any of customers vehicles with dozens underneath. But new sticker, air filter 1” short for the air box and installed a PCV valve too large for the engine size that caused the idle unstable as the IAC was going nuts.

I can’t speak to whether it should be left in place or not (or even why it’s there) but, the grease zerk comes in the bypass plate straight from GM when you buy a new CTSV pan. I know, because I’ve bought 2 of them in the past. Part # 12631828. Here’s the first hit I found in google.
