68 GMC Dana 44 rear disc conversion???
Hi,
I have a 68 GMC 2wd with a leaf sprung Dana 44 rear end. The rear end has the big Ford ends. Does anybody make a rear disc brake conversion kit for this? Been looking around but not finding anything. Thanks Posted via Mobile Device |

I am interested in this as well. My drums are nearing the end of their life and new ones are unobtainable I hear.

Found this but haven’t called them yet.
https://www.quickperformance.com/For...it_p_7973.html Looks like they might fit. I’ve already converted to 5x5 lug pattern. Anybody have any input. Last edited by Hudsonaj36; 05-07-2020 at 10:38 PM. |

Re: 68 GMC Dana 44 rear disc conversion???
I have the same rear end but have never looked at discs. I did look for 5 lug conversion axles with no luck. They're not very well supported by the aftermarket. I bought everything to rebuild my drums except for the drums themselves (mine were okay) from RockAuto and it looks like they have drums too.
How did you convert to 5 lug?

I just called Dutchman axles, told them what I had And they made them for me. Wanna say they were around $350.

Re: 68 GMC Dana 44 rear disc conversion???
Finally found our drums at rock auto like 5 or 6 years ago. They went on close out and.bought last two they had for 1/2 price just to have extras. Will go to garage after my son gets home and get you part numbers. It's his truck so I dont know where he stashed them. But yes hard to find drums for gmc leaf spring setups. His is a Dana 44 with the large studs. If I remember right the first two we bought was like 50. Each plus shipping. The closeout ones were like 23.$ each. It is a centric part number I think. Will let you know.

I would like that part number too. My 2 are starting to wear thin. Disc rear would only be for me if I can't find the drums.

I talked to quick performance this morning and it sounds like the Rear disc kit will work for me. Having already switched to a 5x5 bolt pattern, finding drums that will work is nearly impossible. If I could find stock drums I would still need to have them re drilled for 5x5. For the disc kit I will have to have some machine work done to my Dutchman axles. I will have to machine down the axle flange from 6 3/4” to about 6 1/4”. I will also need to machine the center of the axle down from 3.5” to 2.77”. Then the kit should bolt up. I will update when I get the kit and let you all know if it works.
