Roadmaster steering box on a 64?

I have a 64 C-10 that I would like to put power steering on. I have been reading and see a square body box is a common swap. Has anyone used a steering box off of a Buick Roadmaster or Chevy Caprice. I have a 1992 Roadmaster box.

Square body PICKUP, not square body Caprice (or later Roadie, etc). The car box won't fit. Simple reason, it mounts on the wrong side of the frame.

Pro tip: you can get a reman box from any parts place. And put your Roadmaster one back in the box for the core ;-)

Re: Roadmaster steering box on a 64?

I swapped a 1974 power steering box onto my 1965 with REZ adapter plate kit.

Um, last time I looked up rebuilt steering boxes (1973-1987 trucks)at AutoZone, I swear they skyrocketed in price, like 600-850 bucks!

Reason I was looking was is somewhere mine has leak, they used to cost under 200 bucks it seems, guess I'll replace the seals or run some more Lucas stop leak power steering fluid.

The 73-87 trucks are harder to find in salvage yards now.

CPP and probably others have some new steering boxes that are supposed to steer better than stock, maybe check those out also.

I might have to get one down the road.

I have the same experience that you did, only difference is that I used one off an 86. I looked at advanced auto parts and found a rebuilt one with lifetime warranty for about $250.

Much better price!

Not sure why it was so expensive at AutoZone?
