Floor starters
I was considering putting a floor starter on a 1960's truck. Should I use the newer style 1954 switch with the stud? Is that stud for a ground wire?

Re: Floor starters
Are you referring to the one that looks like a dimmer switch?..its a momentary switch that carries 12v from the key switch to the starter solenoid...no ground

Re: Floor starters
I'd have to ask why. The regular AD truck stomp pedal setup is mechanical linkage connected to the starter and not practical for a later truck.
You can rig a tractor foot starter button to work and adapt the stomp pedal pad on top without a lot of trouble Those can be had at Tractor Supply or most farm equipment dealers and then just hook the start wire to the solenoid to it rather than a push button on the dash. https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/pr...-switch-dr405c Still a rather lame cry for attention in a 60's truck that doesn't serve any real purpose. Doing it in and AD truck that had a stomp pedal and was converted to a V8 or later six that only has a solenoid starter and can't use the regular linkage is a simple way to put a starter button in those rigs.

Re: Floor starters
Thanks. The truck already isn't using a regular ignition switch. Seems like going hands free would be easier. What is the stud for that's sticking out of the side?

Re: Floor starters
not seen one like that, but I would assume the lug on top would be hot from the battery and the side lug would go to the starter solenoid...just assuming

Re: Floor starters
That piece bolts to the stock 6 volt starter that won't fit your truck and won't work at all with your stock starter.
If you want to pretend to have a foot starter you have to get one of the tractor starter pedals as I posted the link to in post 3 drill a hole in the right spot of the floor to stick it up from the bottom (hold just big enough for the round part) connect a hot wire of the appropriate gauge to one side and a wire to the S pole on the starter on the other side and it will start with your foot. Same exact method that some guys are using on their AD trucks when they swap engines and can no longer use the stomp pedal starter. For them it is to have it look and work pretty much as it did, not have to change ignition switches and not have to put a push button in the dash.
