Finally Brought One Home - 1972 GMC K15

Been lurking for over a decade and I've wanted one of these trucks since I was a kid. Finally joined the family a couple weeks ago when I drove this beauty 30 hours home from to Frisco, TX from Grants Pass, OR. Only part of the trip that was even remotely iffy was going over the mountain passes in CO, but she handled them just fine.

Completely original (sans new fender, wheel well, grill, bumper and terrible paint match from a fender bender and wheels), 1.5 owner (last owner bought the truck as part of estate from original owner and put 300 miles on it), close to no rust, with all of the purchase and maintenance records.

The camper came in handy for a place to sleep on the way home.

Super excited to bring her back to her former glory and learn from you guys.

Very nice! Love the light yellow on saddle interior! That light yellow paint is pretty uncommon in my observations. These trucks are getting hard to find in that condition, you did well. Welcome to the 4x4 club, I’m totally biased but I’m my opinion the K trucks are the best of the 67-72’s!

Good buy. Love the color. Feel the springs under the seat and behind - maybe the build sheet is there.

Re: Finally Brought One Home - 1972 GMC K15

My first lob was with a Chevy dealer in Dewitt Mi. They got a 1972 C-10 in with a blown up engine. It was a Super Cheyenne triple black. I tryed to buy it but they told me to just fix it. I have wanted one every since that day.

It seems to be very uncommon, especially this one since the owner had it built without the white stripe / top molding and Sierra Grande Equip option.'

Does anyone know what that option actually is? Asking because it seems to have most of the Sierra Grande interior options, but only has the Sierra emblem on the bedside.

It's not going anywhere! It was perfect for sleeping and still had plenty of room for everything else. Really excited for fair weather camping/fishing trips in the future. Just wish it was lighter, it was quite the beast to take off. I'll have to hook up a pulley system for it in the garage.

It was on Facebook Marketplace for at least 2 months while I got final permission from the higher ups and figured out how I was going to get it during all of this COVID craziness. Use the mobile version of Facebook marketplace so you can drag the search radius around the map at will and easily save/watch listings. I found a TON of trucks that weren't on Craigslist / other listing sites.

Not planning on it! Long term plan is to find a matching Jimmy that will fit the whole family.

It's on the backside of the seat! Got some really crappy pictures with my phone. Will need to pull the seat to get a better look. It's mostly intact, but definitely showing it age. Looks like I would need to remove the seat cover to get it out without damaging it. Anyone done this before?

Seller sent the maintenance records to me and every major system (fluids, brakes, bearings, etc.) was serviced/replaced in the late 90s and they had only put 2k miles on it since then. Bit of a gamble, but a 50 lb checked tool-bag and a trip to the Auto Parts store for extra parts (belts, fluids, wipers, some gaskets, etc.) had me feeling pretty confident. Also helps when you bring a brother along to help drive and fix the truck if it comes to that.

Mostly original, with a moderate lift and a few creature / safety comforts. Since I live in Texas, starting with a Vintage Air (anyone know how I can get a deal on a new unit?), window seals and replacing/reconditioning mechanical parts where needed. Putting together the full list of what needs to be serviced & replaced right now. Is there a full restoration checklist I could use to help track what needs to be done and prioritize the order?

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/19...ra-grande-k10/

This truck showed up on Bring a Trailer the other day with the same color combo mine would have had with the white stripe and upper molding. Other than the LS Swap, is really close to what I want to end up with. After sitting in that seat for 30 hours with no AC, most likely looking to do a seat swap.

Door is original, but truck was delivered to the original owner on 12-17-71 (I'll look at the build sheet this weekend to find the build date). Not going to pretend I know, but was there some crossover time for the doors between 71/72?

I think the reference is that the passenger door is missing the screw under the vent window latch that the driver's door has and is correct for '72. Is the screw there and just hard to see in the sunlight in the picture?
