LS variations?
Is there a way to tell visually a stock 6.0 Liter versus a 5.3/4.8 Liter engine? Especially if the build tag is missing from the engine?
I am fully aware a 4.8/5.3 are the same engine visually on the outside Pic for attention only. |

Re: LS variations?
I'm reasonably certain there's a casting mark in the back of the block, after you detach the transmission. Mine had "Gen IV" cast back there, and I think it said "5.3/4.8" as well, but I'm forgetting by now.
Edit to add: it's quite possible that cast mark is on the FRONT of the block, like someone else said. It's been a while since I last saw it.

Re: LS variations?
Behind the alternator/power steering pump bracket (drivers side front of the block) engine is an LY6 6.0 from a 2009 Silverado 2500

Re: LS variations?
If all stock the best way to find the difference between a 4.8 and 5.3 is to remove a spark plug and look inside. 4.8 has a flat top piston and a 5.3 has a dish piston.
