dash repair
I did a quick search but couldn't find an exact answer. Does anyone know what gauge/thickness the sheetmetal is on 60-63 dashes? I'm considering completely filling in the ashtray.
thanks |

Re: dash repair
You can always measure the thickness of the metal with a caliper to find out.

Re: dash repair
I think it is 16 gauge. That is what I bought to do the same thing. I am repairing my radio cut out and at the same time filling in my ashtray opening to put an A/C vent. I haven't done it yet, but I did cut out the sheet metal for the ashtray cover up. I drilled out the spot welds on the back of the dash panel for the ashtray holder and opened up the opening a little since it was rounded on the inside...below is a picture of what I am doing and what it will look like when I am done. Hope that helps.

That's exactly what I needed. I'm looking to add AC vents as well. We're in the process of moving so most of my tools are scattered and my truck is at my parents house. Keep me updated on your progress, looks good so far. |

Re: dash repair
Finally got rid of the Vintage Air plastic box that mounts to the bottom of the dash. At some point, I'd like to go back to the original style radio and a slightly different version of this set up but I like this better for now.
