67-72 stepside pics, 2020 show and tell
I think this is a good time to start a new stepside only pic thread. There are a few old threads containing members who have moved on or just don't post much anymore and many of the old pics are ruined by that frikken PHOTOBUCKET stamp. And we have newer members that would enjoy and benefit from seeing all styles of 67-72 stepsides in one thread. Stock, lifted, lowered, long, short are all welcome. It's helpful to have many pics and stats in one thread.
So, whacha got and what are your plans? I've only posted a few pics of my 69 over the years. Not much to look at yet. It's a looooooong term project, unintentionally. 358/T350, RV cam, 4:11 posi air cab lowered 4 1/2 front, 4 rear 8" rallys, 255/70/15 primered, paint some day, maybe currently collecting parts and doing mechanical work will be just a good driver

Here is my 67. I sold my 70 stepside in Jan 2019 and immediately regretted it. After a year I bought this 67 in Feb of this year. I will not sell this one. Within next two weeks I will be starting on LS swap and AC.

It seems as though most of us have truck in progress. Mine is getting close as soon as I get it all wired and the rest of the front end back on. Want to install the buckets, but seems like no one is making the original seat material right now.

Here is my 1967 C10. Started life as a base model Army truck. Now has a L31 350/5.7 Vortec, 200r4, and a 1970.5 rear axle. Just a fun cruiser that gets a lot of thumbs ups and waves.

Re: 67-72 stepside pics, 2020 show and tell
Work in progress.. it left the factory as a 1971 Longbed Fleet. I wanted a step side short so frame was cut and bought a step side bed in Modesto CA for $250. Ultimately, it will be a 5.3 with a 7875 turbo on it and a 4L80E. Don’t care about drag race times. I just wanna be able to lay patch for as far as I dare keep my foot in it.

Mark I guess when road trippin season is over you'll be getting back on that one? What is that a 9' bed?

Old 51. That truck reminds me of my first love of these trucks. It was a gold and white 67 short fleetside. My girl friend drove it. And I married that girl.

6T7 C10. I like what you are doing with that one. That's an interesting pcv arrangement.

Re: 67-72 stepside pics, 2020 show and tell
Glad you started this one Boog. I'm gonna start way back and then come to present day.
My 1970 CST step side that I had from ages 16-22. Did my first disc brake conversion on this truck when I was 20. That was summer 1989. As I told Boog the other day, this truck was built by some local hot rodders and they put the 71/72 front on it along with some custom tail light/rear bumper touches. My current 67 project on delivery day in May 2019 and how she is sitting today, sort of. All the front suspension/steering is out now. A arms painted etc. My short term plan is to rock a look very similar to 67T C10 while I get up nerve and money for a paint job.

Re: 67-72 stepside pics, 2020 show and tell
10-12 years or so ago I found & bought the '67 small window/side mount spare/short step in the picture. Amazingly straight, minimal rust... put it in the shop and never got around to it. I bought several other 60's/70's cars & trucks. I worked on, improved and sold them. I made a little profit on most but not much for my time/labor. Had some fun with a Nova eigth mi. drag car but TERRIBLE time & money pit. I bought my '71 GMC locally, 350/700r4, ps/pdb/cold A/C, 2.5"drop spindles.... 1 decent cheap original color repaint. Got original paper work & protecto plate. It was rustproofed apparently when it was new and it worked pretty good. Rustproofing is a black goo that still oozes out of the tail gate on a hot day. Orig rockers & cab corners. It wasn't cheap but was fairly priced.. I could have easily spent the same or more money on the '67 with a LOT more grease, sweat & time invested. I never worked as a mechanic but have always had hobby/hotrod cars & trucks, I'm 68 now & just don't enjoy shop time like I used to. I've had the '71 5+years and have lowered it a little more and a few other changes. It has alum. intake & 600 holley, starts/idles/runs & drives good. HEI dist. & cast iron ex. manifolds, stainless flowmaster knock-off mufflers that exit under the r. bumper. Gas mileage ain't great but it likes 87oct. ok. No plans for an LS swap, I like 'em, both our D. drivers are LS powered but my Holleys on the '71 & my '72 Blazer behave like they're supposed to. I don't mind the tank in the cab either. I have a factory posi unit but I'll probably put it in the Blazer. OH YEAH, I sold the '67 & a '69 Nova I'd had for 25yrs to a friend of mine as a package deal about 5yrs ago. He's just about finished with the '67 NOW and the Nova's ready for paint but completely disassembled. I like the looks of the '67 Chevy better but I can live with it. I think the GMC has a pretty face.

Boog, Thanks for starting this thread!!! Even though my 67 and 68 are both fleet sides, I like the step sides, also!!! Reminds me of the 47-55 era pickups. Those early models were made to work out of, not much other thoughts concerning their design...my opinion. |

This is Leroy.
1970 Short Step with a '67 small window cab. Lots of little custom touches. Definitely not a stock build, but not too wild either. Leroy was my son's first vehicle. It's been in the family 22 years, but it was a bucket of bolts and rust when he drove it. |
