K10 LS Swap

Men,

I have a 1968 GMC K10. I want to do an LS swap on this bad boy. Is there anyone who makes an LS swap kit for 4x4's? I am only seeing 2wd stuff. Are there any differences between the 2?

Also - in terms of the swap, are there any differences between the chevy and GMC? Most kits are for chevrolet and dont mention GMC at all

Thank you!!

Re: K10 LS Swap

Welcome to the forum!! If you look in the LSx Swap under Engine and Drive-train section you will find all kinds of great information on what you are about to do. Good luck.

As said the LS swap section is the place to look. There’s a bunch of 4x4 swap info over there. Chevy and GMC are the same with this swap.

Re: K10 LS Swap

You can buy the swap cross member kits 400 obo they require a lift kit

You can use a universal swap cross member from places like jegs around 60 bucks There aimed at 50s trucks

Or you can modify your motor mount cross member yourself

And yes there is lots of write up talk in the ls and 4x4 sections ls swap is under engine category

Re: K10 LS Swap

I have been thinking the same about my 1972 K10. The best info comes from the build threads in my opinion. Search for 4x4 LS swap or 4x4 5.3. Here are a few that I have gained a ton of info from.

And a 2wd here that he keeps to a very small budget Rusty C10

One more 2wd but you get some great info and video from his build thread.

Re: K10 LS Swap

I’m gonna go with the 55-59 v8 swap cross member in mine. $100 and no lift required. There’s a thread or two around about it.

Re: K10 LS Swap

I used a 81-87 front cross member but if I had to do it again I would have just built it from scratch.

Re: K10 LS Swap

I just recently completed my first LS swap in my 70 K10. The sky is the limit on how far you can go. I used a Gen III LM7 with drive by cable. I put in a 5.3L 4L60E combo. I used the 4L60E because of the length and fit. This way I didn't have to modify my driveshafts. Nice thing about the Gen III (mine was 2000 Yukon) is that there is only one PCM and the drive by cable allowed me to use the stock pedal. Check out my build thread link in my signature and jump right in. Very nice swap and well worth it. Turn the key and go.
