1964 rear end ID

Help me ID this rear in my 64 C10
Looks to be a 12 bolt, I'm guessing that it is not original to this truck.
What would be the correct rear for 1964.
Any opinions.

Re: 1964 rear end ID

If it's 6 lug, that's a 65-70 rear end. If it's 5 lug, it could either be a 65-70 that's been swapped over to 5 lug, or it's a 71-72 rear.

The 64 axle is basically the same except for having 17 spline axles and the panhard bar mounts on a bracket welded on to the passenger side axle tube.

Does this panhard mount, look to be a 65-70

Re: 1964 rear end ID

That is where the 65-72 axles all mounted. I had a 65-70 rear swapped into my 63

Re: 1964 rear end ID

Your '64 C10 came from the factory with a truck 12 bolt nearly identical to what you have. The differences are the spline count of the axles and spider gears and the panhard bar mounting. The 12 bolt differential you have under your truck is typical of a '65-'72 truck 12 bolt.

Re: 1964 rear end ID

IIRC if you pop the cover off there will be a stamping on the ring gear. Both the gear tooth counts and the date.
