gauge cluster upgrade thoughts

My gauges are due for an upgrade. I have a new "gauge" wiring harness. There are tons of options out there. I am wanting a plug and play, but like the looks and idea of a stock look, with some electrical upgrades. I for sure want to add a tach. Any suggestions or recommendations would be awesome help.

Depending upon the engine you have, my initial suggestion is keep it simple and go with an OEM or OEM-style gauge cluster. Add a tach and maybe a vacuum gauge or GM clock to fill the empty hole adjacent to the oil pressure gauge.

That’s what I did. Factory style Complete replacement cluster from gmc Paul’s. Just plug in and go. That and a new dash pad made a huge difference. I also replaced headlight switch and knobs and few other things.

Get the Dakota Digital dash. Looks stock, but far superior. Not cheap, but probably not much different than restoring your old panel. This was the first purchase I made when I built my truck and definitely happy with it.

I'm running a Classic Instruments setup that I'm pretty pleased with. Install was easy, but I'd stop short of calling it "plug and play". I chose something a bit less "stock", but they have several styles including one that is very original looking.

I had my original cluster restored. The needles repainted and the glass water sanded. A member in Oregon did the work and it is outstanding! Changed the lights to led in the dash.
The pad is new. I also replaced some of the knobs. I have the uncommon manual throttle option in my Jimmy so that was installed into the new pad, and the original washer withe the "throttle" label was retained.

I can be take better pics, but I'm very happy with the results.

Leaning towards the the classic industries g-stock. The body is off my K5, New Paint Installing New wiring harness. Harrige4 I assume I would have to replace the plug on my harness as well as senders ect. Was everything you needed In the kit, and did your installation go smoothly? Hay parp, Love that interior The saddle and white is a great combination!

Tough Decision !!! My New cluster arrived. It is exactly the look I was after. Now if I am just smart enough to get it Installed.

I am getting the the plug Wired in and have a couple questions. The new cluster doesn't appear to use the tan (brake) warning lights wires as well as the second black (Guessing ground wire) and no use for the ammeter wire. Can anyone verify my findings?

I can't remember those two but I know the volt meter just gets it's feed from the +12v feed to the cluster
Also the stock fuel gauge as wired from the fuse block would not work....I ended up wiring straight from the sender, by-passing the fuse block.
Did you get the pulse generator for the speedometer? If not I have an extra that came with the kit I just bought for my '67....the LS1 won't need it.
