Look at what I found.. Need to replace..
Doing a 402/700r swap into this 72 blazer.. While everything is out and getting cleaned I figured I would drop the TC and give it a seal kit and clean it up..
It appears someone had a problem years ago.. It has been driven like this for a very long time but I just cannot see letting it stay, any opinions on that? I figured I would just replace it, should I go with advanced adapters or should I try and find a oem adapter? Thoughts? |

It's not the prettiest, but it looks like a solid weld, and as you said, it's been driven like that for years.

If it was me I’d get a new one personally. The 50 year old oe piece is a crapshoot at best. They are notorious for cracking out. I’ve always heard removing the side mount front e transfer case helps to remedy the problem. My K20 has the side mount removed with no issues.

That is correct, transfer case bolted to the crossmember only.

Looks like it's brazed. Probably got the leak sealed though. Anyhow, new aluminum from Advanced adapters are probably only a couple hundred bucks, and they claim much stronger than original. Only thing to ask is the thread size for the shoulder bolt for the transfer shift lever. You may have to get a new pivot/shoulder bolt as well. Use the correct specified gasket and not RTV to seal when assembling(just in case you didn't already know).
