Seat back covers, reproduction vs OEM
Just thought I’d post some comparison photos of OEM K5 seat back covers versus new reproduction. The oem covers were all black and painted to match the interior. The grain texture differs versus the reproduction examples as shown. The first image has parallax distortion, the covers aren’t angled as it would appear. OEM NOS cover on the left, repro on the right in the first image.
It would appear that the year of manufacture is possibly indicated on OEM panels. The piece with “71” came from a Blazer assembled in early 1972 whereas the brown example I pulled from a square body but can’t recall the model year sadly (shown on post to follow).

Re: Seat back covers, reproduction vs OEM
Guide marks on OEM covers - note the time clock and differing part numbers for what is the same cover. The parchment 3990781 example was installed on the assembly line in 1972. The brown example is from a square body blazer.
The last image is a NOS example presumably made post 72 MY

Re: Seat back covers, reproduction vs OEM
I’d be curious to see what numbers are on any OEM covers from known K5s especially 69-70 - maybe it is the year or manufacture.

Wow, you are definitely a walking Blazer library. Impressive.

Re: Seat back covers, reproduction vs OEM
I’m just tormented In anticipation of spring projects I thought I’d get some parts painted over the winter. I pulled the seat back covers, visor brackets, and a console to get sprayed the GM 521 white.
As an aside, here’s what much of the Guide factory site looks like now. Which is to say it’s nearly gone. A friend who grew up in the area snapped these yesterday.
