Is there a plastic replacement for the steel oil pressure line to the gauge?
Looking for a plastic hose to replace the steel line going to the pressure gauge.
Has anyone ever done this?

The consensus on most car/truck forums shows a preference for a copper line vs plastic.
But, yes I've seen plastic ones from various part vendors. |

I saw them on eBay and I think on Summit.

Steel bends better and doesn't break from fatigue like copper, which work hardens and cracks. Nylon is fine, but everywhere it makes contact, it should have something on it in case of chafing.

Theres a handful on Summit Racing. I'm sure Jegs, Autometer, and and similar have them also. Some braided stainless too.

I had a plastic line once, until it blew off and dumped hot oil in the car, never again.

Re: Is there a plastic replacement for the steel oil pressure line to the gauge?
I had a plastic line touch a header while on the running dyno. Pumped flaming oil all over the dyno room till the fire extinguisher calmed things down.

Re: Is there a plastic replacement for the steel oil pressure line to the gauge?
My plastic one got brittle over the years and then cracked and blew oil all over my engine. Better than in the cab I guess.

Re: Is there a plastic replacement for the steel oil pressure line to the gauge?
Please don't use plastic. All the reasons above are true. They are not trustworthy. Go with copper.

Re: Is there a plastic replacement for the steel oil pressure line to the gauge?
I'd stay with steel, or use NiCopp. Regular copper work hardens and will eventually crack.

Ok. I think I’ll stick with steel.
Thanks!

Re: Is there a plastic replacement for the steel oil pressure line to the gauge?
On my 1972 I purchased an AN-4 braided SS line and used brass fittings to attach. Flexible and less prone to crack than plastic, steel, or copper.
Just another option. There are some pictures in this thread. http://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vboa...&highlight=Oil

Re: Is there a plastic replacement for the steel oil pressure line to the gauge?
Yes stay away from the plastic lines.
They do work for short term use but after some years they will become brittle and crack and break in a million places and pieces.

Re: Is there a plastic replacement for the steel oil pressure line to the gauge?
I have used copper lines and they seem to work fine for me.

Re: Is there a plastic replacement for the steel oil pressure line to the gauge?
I had my oil pressure gauge updated to the next series gauge and matching sender. No tubes for me.
