Tail/Brake Light Help
OK, so I finally got the bed back on my truck and finished wiring the tail lights. This is a new AAW wiring harness. LED tail lights...Flasher for LED also installed. All of this is for the rear of the truck. I have not finished wiring front parking lights yet.
When I turn on my lights, the drivers side is brighter than passenger same intensity as brake lights. With no lights, I push brake pedal and the brake lights work, but drivers side is not as bright...same intensity as parking lights. Drivers blinker doesn't work with brakes engaged or with lights on, but does at a reduced intensity than passenger side with lights off. I have a new ground strap from bed to frame and from cab to frame. I made sure the strap is hitting fresh metal on frame and body/bed. I also have ground straps from front of engine block to battery negative side and from back of block to frame. I traced the wires back to the fuse block and made sure nothing was crossed up, but it seems the drivers side is reversed from parking light to brake light intensity. I even swapped out to new LEDs and had same result. Here are the 2 grounds I have from Cab to frame (pic 1) and from bed to frame (pic 2). I thought for sure it would be a grounding issue, but unless I need more grounds or a better location, I am stumped. HELP! |

Re: Tail/Brake Light Help
Well, after I wrote this, I went back out and double checked everything and everything was connected according to AAW instructions. However, just for FUN, I reversed the parking lights wires and brake light wires on the drivers side fixture...and everything is working correctly now. I used AAW's supplied sockets and wires...but they must have been reversed at the factory...Even though now brown goes to yellow and vice versas, it all works as it should...very strange.
Thanks to all that would have replied. |

Re: Tail/Brake Light Help
I had similar experience with lots of head scratching, it turned out one of the aftermarket LED tail lights had a lead reversed. Also, make sure your light buckets are grounded good or they won't work right, the two wires are both hots, your ground is through the bucket > bracket > bed> strap to frame....., I ran a dedicate ground wire to the rear frame.
